The Andie Summers Show

The Andie Summers Show

October 5th is World Teachers Day!

Teachers deserve recognition, and a whole lot of thanks and appreciation.

Aside from parents and direct family, who else has as much influence on the hearts and minds of our kids? Teachers not only educate, but they help to shape and frame your child’s beliefs, values, and behaviors.

I wanted to come up with a list of some the best teachers in tv/movies.  Fictional characters only.ee

  • Mr. Miyagi - Karate Kid

This could be the best teacher on the list.  Who doesn’t love Mr. Miyagi? He took on the Cobra Kai many times and beat them each time.  He trained Daniel to stand up to bullies and in the end, beat them in multiple tournaments.

  • Mr. Feeny - Boy Meets World

This guy not only taught Corey, Topanga, Shawn, and many others… He also taught me and many other kids life lessons.  What a great teacher!  “Feeny! Fee-Heeee Heeeny! Feeny!”

  • Louanne Johnson - Dangerous Minds

Michelle Pfeiffer was so good in this movie.  Along with a great soundtrack, this was a top notch teacher! I also learned a little bit about Bob Dylan.

  • Veronica Vaughn - Billy Madison

I think we all know why I chose her.  She’s stunning and she’s pretty funny in this movie.

Bridgette Wilson - Billy Madison (1995)
  • Dewey Finn - School of Rock

Jack Black is amazing in this!  The kids are legit rock stars and the movie is just all-around awesome!

  • John Keating - Dead Poet's Society

2 words: Robin Williams.  The guy absolutely crushed this role and he got an Oscar nomination for it.  Brilliant!

"Carpe diem. Seize the day." - Dead Poets Society
  • Detective John Kimble - Kindergarten Cop

This movie was adorable.  Very cheesy but still really cute. Arnold Schwarzenegger was so good with these little kids.

  • Mr. Belding - Saved By The Bell

Technically not a teacher… He was the principal of Bayside High while Zack, Slater, Kelly, Screech, Lisa, and Jesse attended school there.  He had many teachable moments though especially with Zack Morris.  Had to put him on the list!

  • Economics Teacher - Ferris Bueller's Day Off

This could be the most boring teacher of all-time but Ben Stein’s quote “Bueller? Bueller?” is a timeless quote and everyone still uses it to this day.

  • Yoda - Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back

He was a teacher, a master, and all around cool dude.  Gotta have Yoda on the list!

  • Obi-Wan Kenobi - Star Wars: A New Hope

Obi-Wan is Luke’s mentor who taught him the ways of the Jedi.  Of course he makes the cut!

  • Mr. Hand - Fast Times At Ridgemont High

This teacher was kinda scary.  He and Spicoli had an interesting relationship but ended up on good terms.  The movie is too good not to have him on the list.

  • Bill Rago - Renaissance Man

This is a super underrated movie.  Danny Devito plays a teacher who has to teach a bunch of army guys who aren’t the brightest in the bunch.  He does a really good job teaching them Hamlet and you just gotta watch it!
