A couple days ago, our afternoon girl Nicole and I were talking about what my next "brunch adventure" would be for the weekend.
She told me about this place that took over the former "More Than Just Ice Cream" just past 12th on Locust Street called "Winkel" which is a sister restaurant to Noord in South Philly (a restaurant that I have to make the rounds to visit one of these days.)
Hats off to Chef Joncarl Lachman for creating an amazing bruncherie in Center City. Winkel (which means "Little Shop") features dishes inspired by his Dutch and Northern European roots.
The decor of the restaurant and the kitchen has a very open atmosphere that is welcoming when you walk in the door.
Their brunch menu features a wide variety, like a Rabbit White Bean & Chive Frittata, Benedicts that are served "Uitsmijter-style" with sunny side eggs and more.
I took advantage of their Prix-Fixe menu. For $25 includes a main course, beverage, small glass of juice and Johnathan's bread butter and homemade jam. I'll tell you this, you won't go hungry.
The bread was amazing, it was Rye Milk Bread which won awards and I could taste why, it was warm, tender and had lots of flavor.
My main course was a brown sugar bacon and cheddar omelete with potato and onion hash which was delicious.
So bring a bunch for brunch and check out "Winkel", it's definitely "Goed eten" ("Good Eating.")
