Brunch With Brian: Zakes Cakes and Cafe
Not too long ago, we made a post on the XTU Facebook pages and took suggestions on where I should visit for my latest #brunchwithbrian adventure.
One fan posted that I should check out this place in Fort Washington called Zakes Cakes and Cafe at the corner of Bethlehem Pike and Lafayette Ave.
Zakes has been part of the Delaware Valley dining scene since opening their restaurant in East Falls in 1979.
They’ve opened their current location nearly 25 years in a rebuilt Victorian building serving breakfast 7 days week, dinner Wednesday thru Saturday, and a special brunch menu on Sunday.
Zakes is also famous for their bakery where they make cakes for any occasion, and their dessert case with a wide variety of cakes, tarts and pies.
I ended up getting a Triple Chocolate Mousse, which I took home. If you’re a fine chocolate lover, you will love this.
Some of their award winning brunch delicacies include such favorites as Honey Lemon Pancakes with House Made Caramel Sauce, and their Scottish Wedding Breakfast with House Cured Salmon and Eggs.
For me I was in the mood for a “bennie”, and I had the “The Classic”, Two Poached Eggs over Ham on Honey Wheat Toast. It was a true tasty combo of “sweet and savory” all in one.
So next time when you’re out driving or getting out of church and you’re in Ft. Washington, take a break with brunch and a little slice of cake at Zakes Cakes and Cafe.
