It was clear as Dolly Parton appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, that Colbert is a fan. So much so, that Stephen cried tears of joy when Dolly started to sing the songs that her mama used to sing to her and her siblings.

Parton told Colbert of those old songs, "I remember all of them. Mama used to sing all those old songs brought over from the Old World. So many of those songs were sad and as I say some of 'em where just plumb pitiful. 'Bury Me Beneath The Willow' it's about a girl that was gonna get married and her boyfriend left her at the alter or whatever so she died of course."

Then Dolly began singing the song and Stephen began to wipe tears from his eyes. Dolly said, "Are you crying?" then continued to sing stopping only to say, "So I better hush before you cry yourself to death and can't finish the show." Colbert said, "Like a lot of Americans I'm under a lot of stress right now Dolly and that was pretty beautiful."

Parton offered, "We used to cry when mama would sing them, those old songs were just amazing though." Stephen responded, "It's just amazing though that there's nothing happier than a cry?" to which Dolly agreed, "Yeah I think it cleanses your soul. I think water is good to wash it out. That's what tears are for I think."
