Two Jersey Shore Towns Announce New Curfew For Summer Season

After the chaos that was last season at the Jersey Shore, I can understand why they are implementing these new rules. There was so much havoc last summer, they are trying to avoid it at all cost for the 2023 season. If your remember, teens from Toms River to Ocean City to Sea Isle City to Wildwood were beyond rowdy last summer up and down the Jersey Shore coast. Police have said the crowds of kids were bigger last year with more underage drinking, more pot smoking and more fighting compared to 2021. Clearly people enjoy going to the shore because it’s traditionally calm and family friendly, especially Ocean City which is a dry town. The Ocean City and Wildwood boardwalks are a known place where people of all ages can enough their time. Last Summer changed that when there was so many issues with teens taking over.
Trying to find a solution for the rowdy teens is just one problem plaguing the Jersey Shore as of late. Since the fall, there has been numerous dead dolphins and whales that have washed ashore. Some people on social media are blaming the wind technology, while other experts say there is no evidence saying that is the cause of the recent uptick.
Sea Isle City will impose a 10 p.m. curfew for minors and ban everyone from carrying backpacks after that hour this summer, becoming the latest Jersey Shore town to tighten up local ordinances.
Ocean City revised local ordinances to give police officers the authority to detain minors for “breach of the peace” violations.
In Ocean City, curfew hours for minors are between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. from May 16 through Sept. 30, and from 10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Oct. 1 through May 15, according to the city’s website. Safety is a priority this summer in all shore towns.
New Jersey Town Named One of the Best Main Streets in America
One of my favorite things about being live on the radio in Philadelphia is that I get to talk about all the cool things that happen in and around the Delaware Valley. So many cities aren’t fortunate enough to be able to talk about FOUR different states – Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland. We honestly can even talk about New York City because it’s still pretty close. It’s extra special to me because I not only grew up in Pennsylvania but also a very small town. Summit Hill is so small that we don’t even have any traffic lights, just stop signs. Summit Hill is very close to Jim Thorpe, PA, which many people are familiar with. It’s been great to see Jim Thorpe take on the role of being a tourism destination. Hopefully it can get even more popular.
The area I grew up in, the coal region, was a very rich area back in the 1900s because of coal. Many small towns are the backbone of America and it’s been great seeing them have a resurgence. Coal might not be a way to make small towns rich anymore, but tourism sure can help.
Fun fact, I got to ride in the very famous Summit Hill Memorial Day Parade last year. My new goal is to make it to the Summit Hill Wikipedia Page. Ha!
Since 925XTU is in Philadelphia, we’re been fortunate to go to a lot of small towns in the area. Whether it’s Haddonfield or Collingswood or Media or Abington or Narberth, there are so many and it’s fun to see these small towns get highlighted so it brings more visitors. Plus supporting small businesses in and around your community is always a positive thing to do. The more business small towns bring in, the better the overall economy will be.
