Look for the Helpers to Find Olympic Hero

Mr. Rogers taught us to always look for the helpers. The story goes, when Fred Rogers was a young boy, he was watching the news with his mother when the story of a disturbing nature came on. Mrs. Rogers, good mother she was, decided to make this a teaching moment. She told her young Fred that when you see something bad happen, whether it is in real life or on the news, look for the helpers. There will always be someone who is running toward the danger. That's the helper. And they should be noticed, and celebrated.

And so it is in Paris, France at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. What we see on television is such a small part of the considerable effort put forth by hundreds, if not thousands of people behind the scenes. These are the people who oversee logistics and operations, technology and broadcasting, security and safety, athlete support, etc. The list is seemingly endless.

Unlikely Olympic Hero

One such man came to the forefront recently, and fans and viewers of the Olympics are heralding him as a hero. It happened earlier this week when a member of Team USA, Emma Webber, seemingly lost her swim cap in the pool.

As you can imagine, anything in the pool during the Olympics could be considered an obstacle or distraction, so there's a guy for that. A gentleman came from behind the scenes, dove in, and collected the swim cap, seemingly saving the day. The crowd went wild.

NBC is carrying the Olympics this year, so Today's Hoda Kotb covered the event on her broadcast. Hoda nicknamed the swimming pool hero as "Bob the Cap Catcher" and he will certainly go down in history as a hero of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. Watch the Olympic Hero in action ...
