Jason Kelce Reveals He Had A Voodoo Doll With Him During The Super Bowl
Jason Kelce Is Still Salty At Travis
On this week’s episode of their New Heights podcast, Jason and Travis talk with Ted Lasso star and creator Jason Sudeikis. They talked about a lot of fun topics, including the big announcement that Ted Lasso Season 4 IS happening! They also talked about how Jason Sudeikis is a massive Kansas City Chiefs fan, which led to the Chiefs losing the Super Bowl this year to the Philadelphia Eagles. (It really is still surreal.) Travis said it still hurts, which led to Jason Kelce saying he lost the Super Bowl TO Travis, so he doesn’t want to hear it. You’ve got to love real brotherly love, right?
What Is A Voodoo Doll, Exactly?
If you aren’t familiar, Voodoo Dolls are very famous in New Orleans, which is where Super Bowl 59 was held. Fun Fact: I actually made my own Voodoo Doll when I was on vacation in NOLA a few years ago. I believe in their energy and power, so I’m not surprised it didn’t go as planned for Jason. I also have another story when I was given a Voodoo Doll when I was going through a tough time with a friend and the person who gave it to me said, don’t use this for bad because it will disappear, and it DID!
Voodoo dolls are symbolic figures traditionally associated with the practice of Voodoo, an Afro-Caribbean religion. Often made from materials like cloth, clay, or wood, they are believed to represent a person, with the idea that actions performed on the doll affect the person it represents. Though commonly linked to magic and curses, Voodoo dolls are primarily used in healing, protection, or as a means to focus spiritual energy. In Voodoo, they serve as a tool for invoking spirits, seeking guidance, or maintaining a connection with the divine rather than as instruments of harm.
Jason Kelce Reveals Why He Had a Voodoo Doll
If you scroll to the 55-minute mark, under “Chiefs Fandom,” you’ll hear Jason Sudeikis talk about how he became a Chiefs fan, which turns into him talking about watching the Chiefs win (and lose) the Super Bowl. Jason and Travis’s brotherly banter comes out when Jason talks about losing the Super Bowl to Travis (in February 2022), so it’s a little different than Travis losing to the Eagles this year.
Jason Sudeikis says how his kids Otis and Daisy love watching Chiefs games with him now and how they watched the Super Bowl. Travis then says he’s sorry ,and Jason Sudeikis says, that’s okay, it’s a better story to write.
Travis says, I blame Jason. He had the voodoo doll next to him the entire time. Then Jason Kelce says, I did and that did not work out well. I got a voodoo doll Bourbon Street trying to like get Travis’s hands warm in the middle of the game with the voodoo doll and Travis said, “it did not work, it backfired, my hands were ice cold.”
The real question is, did Jason Kelce get the Voodoo Doll so Travis (and the Chiefs) would win? It sure seems that way. If you remember, right after the Super Bowl, some people were upset that Jason was supporting Travis and the Chiefs and not the Eagles. Jason addressed it on his New Heights podcast, saying, “It sucks, I knew it was going to be weird going into it. It progressively got weirder as the week went on, on one hand, you played your entire life with an organization and team. A lot of people, in that building, coaches, friends, teammates that you’ve gone through adversity with. And it really, makes you very, very close.”
“And then on the other hand you have your brother, I’ve always supported you. I’ve always wanted you to win, and I wanted you to win this game. I thought I made that clear.”
