Traffic Alert: Lane Closures Set for U.S. 30 Bypass Sinkhole Repair in Downingtown
On March 17, workers will close off the left lane in both directions on U.S. 30 in Downingtown Borough. The project will fix a problematic sinkhole that’s opened up along the bypass again.
Work will happen from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. PennDOT says drivers should expect major backups during repairs.
The left lanes will be closed in both directions on U.S. 30 (Coatesville Downingtown Bypass) between the U.S. 322 (Horseshoe Pike) East ramp and Business U.S. 30 West (Lancaster Avenue) ramp.
The schedule might change if the weather turns bad. Drivers should check 511PA.com before heading out – they can use the website or app or call 5-1-1 for updates.
This area runs through Chester County’s limestone-heavy ground, making it vulnerable to sudden sinkholes and collapses. The unstable bedrock underneath causes these problems.
Keep an eye out for signs when heading east through the work zone. Plan to slow down in this area.
