Beloved Bubble Gum Discontinued After 54 Years
Even Bubble Gum Has An Expiration Date
Fruit Stripe Gum, one of the most famous bubble gum of all time, is being discontinued after being on the market for 54 years. Having one of your favorite foods discontinued is such an awful feeling. I’ll never forgive Trident for changing their formula for Trident Original Gum. It’s never been the same.
The news was confirmed in a statement from the gum’s parent company, Ferrara Candy Company.
A rep for the company said in a statement, “We have made the difficult decision to sunset Fruit Stripe Gum, but consumers may still be able to find product at select retailers nationwide.”
The statement continued, “The decision to sunset this product was not taken lightly, and we considered many factors before coming to this decision, including consumer preferences, and purchasing patterns — and overall brand trends for Fruit Stripe Gum.”
In case you need a refresher, the gum came in a variety of flavors, like tropical, watermelon, and original, and is often associated with nostalgic memories of childhood. The gum’s flavor is notorious for its quick, intense taste that doesn’t last very long, but it’s still beloved by many for its fun, colorful aesthetic and the memorable flavor experience. I feel like I remember it being very tart at first, like when you first put it in your mouth, you would shake. Ha! I’ve always been more of a minty gum gal, but I have a lot of respect for nostalgia.
I’ll never forgive Pier One for discontinuing my most favorite scent of all time – Sugared Cinnamon – or West Elm for discontinuing Shimmering Balsam. I could go on and on, but I’ll spare you.
Fruit Strip Bubble Gum Was Iconic
I haven’t had a piece of this gum in a very long time, but just looking at the pictures, I can taste it immediately.
