5 Dog Lover Communities to Check Out
While researching dog lover communities I came across a fun term, petworking! How cute is that, networking for your pets! Whether you are looking to connect with other dog lovers, find a significant other who shares the same passion for dogs as you, or dog friendly places in your area, take a look at this list of dog lover communities.
Dig
Dig claims they are “the dog person’s dating app” and is a dating app built to connect dog people based on what’s most important to them, their dog(s). Founded by sisters Casey and Leigh Isaacson, the idea was born after they were tired on being duped by fake dog lovers. Users create a profile and based on information you provide the app provides potential matches. Users can “dig”, “really dig”, or “pass” on someone. The app also provides first date ideas with its dog-friendly locations feature and also daily deals for dog related products and services.
Dog Date Afternoon
Dog Date Afternoon is similar to other dating apps and allows you to browse profiles of other single people with dogs in your area. The app has sections for both you and for your canine companion. A fun feature Dog Date Afternoon has is you can notify your matches when you and your dog are going on a walk, hike, or to the park.
Meetup.com
Meetup.com is a great way to meet dog lovers. There is usually a Meetup group for just about everything. Meetup allows people to find people with similar interests in their area. You can explore by city, search social groups, career groups, and creativity groups. Meetup.com also gives you the option to create a group. You’re likely going to find local dog lover communities on this website.

Remy is a handsome, friendly one year hound mix, He’s looking for an active family that’s as much fun as he is. Putting his nose to the ground, he’s certain to lead his new family on many wonderful adventures. He would prefer a home with older kids, but is dog friendly and loves playing fetch. Dakota is a sweet, high energy boy who always wants to play. He's also quite the gentleman when that's called for -- house trained; sleeps through the night in his bed; and knows sit, stay and down. Dakota hopes for a home as the only furkid in the castle, and he would do best with older kids since he's strong and a bit of a big puppy at just two years old. Go to https://bvspca.org/adopt/
Doby is an adorable pocket sized girl whose personality is big enough to fill your home all on her own (which is great because she prefers to be an only pet). Doby loves vigorous pets, morning stretches (she's a pro), and the occasional belch. Doby walks very well on a leash, is well behaved in a crate, and appears housebroken. She's an exceptionally easy dog to love and would do well in most single pet households. Want to learn more about Doby? Email her foster mama jodalysh@stanford.edu
Oskar is just a young pup! He’s estimated to be about a year old - with his whole life ahead of him! Oskar is a big boy, weighing in around 71 pounds, and definitely will need some space to be his big, goofy self! He can’t wait to learn with his future foster or forever family so he can become his very best self! Oskar requests an adults only home at this point because of his size and puppy-ness! He also needs to be the only dog in his home. Submit a foster application at ACCTPhilly.org or to meet him visit ACCT Philly at 111 W Hunting Park Avenue
Jefe is a 9 month old life-size beanie baby! He is a very playful, energetic pup with a sweet and sensitive demeanor. Jefe had a fun time playing in the snow, and climbing large snow piles. He is also very housetrained! Jefe's ideal home would be able to provide him the puppy training and love he so deserves. He really doesn't like to be alone in his kennel at the shelter, and would much prefer to cuddle with you! Do you want to foster or adopt this sweet pup? Fill out a Foster Application at ACCTPhilly.org, or to Adopt, visit ACCT Philly (111 W. Hunting Park Avenue) any day of the week 10am-6pm
Glinda is currently in foster, and her foster dad says the following about her: Glinda is a sweet and gentle soul. She is approximately 7 years old with a lot of puppy energy left in her and would thrive in a household that could give her love and attention. Glinda is crate trained and knows some cues. Her recall is really good, too. She will eat any food you give her - she is not picky at all! If it were not for our resident dog being a bit too territorial, we would have kept Glinda. If you have any questions about Glinda, feel free to email me directly at frankferra@gmail.com
This little one is the sweetest, most snuggly and calm girl around!! Aviana walks perfect on a leash - no bunny chasing ever. She is a social butterfly to the extreme, who loves to greet everyone she meets with tail wags and a happy face. She definitely does not believe in personal space and is a 50 pound velcro lap dog for sure. Aviana loved the little kids she has met, though she is not a fan of smaller dogs or cats. So a home without smaller animals is best. Aviana also loves to go for car rides, and prefers to be in the passenger seat :) Interested in meeting this sweet girl? Email her foster mom at stantonchris@comcast.net
Hi! My name is Wild Blue Yonder. I know what you're going to say, "How can a guy this handsome end up in the shelter?" Well, my previous home wasn't the best place for me and some nice folks came and rescued me. As with any cat, I may need some time to adjust to new people, but I can tell you exactly how to win me over - with treats and playtime! Do you think we could get to know each other over some tuna mouse and toys? If so, please fill out an application for me at www.pspca.org and email it to adoptions@pspca.org. I can't wait to meet you!
Meet Bellatrix, an absolute sweetheart. In honor of Thyroid Awareness Month, we wanted to introduce you to this special kitty who will need to be on thyroid medication for the rest of her life. She is 12-years-young and though a bit shy at first, she loves attention and pets. When her previous owners fell ill and were no longer able to care for Bellatrix, she was brought to the shelter in hopes that we could find her a new home. A furever home. Her beautiful white coat and loving personality are sure to win you over. To apply to meet Bellatrix, email adoptions@pspca.org
Hi, I'm Bentley! I've spent most of my life not being properly cared for which has left me with some trust issues with new people at first. Since coming to the PSPCA, I've had the pleasure of becoming friends with several of the amazing staff and volunteers who've spent a long time building up my trust. I now love the company of my human friends. I'm looking for an adult-only home away from the busy city streets that I can call my own. If you think I'd be a good fit for you and your family, reach out to behavior@pspca.org and find out how to meet me today!
Hey Future Fam! I'm Rolly! I know sit, down, paw, and I have even learned "going to place" and can hold for nom nom TREATS! I love tennis balls and stuffed toys. I romp around and around and get so very happy! I am still getting used to how hoomans show affection and even though it feels really good when they scratch me, I just need a little time to be cuddled. I would love to go home with another canine playmate, since dogs help me become more social and comfortable in my new environment. I must be in an "Adult Only" household. Please email my best friends at: behavior@pspca.org

Hi Friends! My name is Gio! I am a 3 year young, fun loving bundle of energy waiting not so patiently for my furever family to come and scoop me up! I love people and like to show them my zoomy skills and fetch abilities. This helps me burn off my energy from being in the kennel. I can get a bit excited and jump up on people, so I may be better in a home with no small children for now. Come on down to the shelter soon so we can meet! Or message my Pen Pals for more information on me: Sarah (flook_sarah@hotmail.com) & Sharon (milano96@hotmail.com)

He is also easily startled by sudden and/or loud noises inside and outside. Nino has likely never known what it feels like to be safe and loved, but we have promised him that his best days are still to come. Could you be the one to give this sweet boy his happily ever after? Hi there! I'm Hedy. I'm a petite little girl and I'm as cute as a button, wouldn't you say? Just recently I started to really warm up to my friends and even let them pet me. My friends said they could hear me purring a mile away! I'm hoping to find a forever family that will give me the time I need to warm up and tell me I'm beautiful everyday. In return, I promise to be a very loyal companion. If you're interested in learning more about me, email adoptions@pspca.org and put my name "Hedy" in the subject line, or fill out an application at pspca.org.
Hi there, I am Anchovy. My volunteer friends tell me I am "adorable" and "teeny tiny," only weighing in at about 5 lbs. I am getting used to people visiting my kennel every day and sometimes I even like to play a little with a wand toy. What I would REALLY love is a family who will take me home and give me time to feel comfortable and open up. While the people at the shelter are very good to me, it's no place for a little girl like me. If you'd like to know more about me or apply to adopt me, fill out an application at www.pspca.org and email it to adoptions@pspca.org. I hope you'll give me the chance to become your best friend.
Looking for a pup who loves the outdoors and is a little on the quirky side? Look no further! Meet Shadow! Shadow takes some time to warm up to new people, but once he chooses you as part of his circle, you'll feel like a million bucks. He'll also run around like a fool with you, so you won't be alone if you've got some extra energy to burn off! Shadow has shown some interest in other dogs, and may benefit from having a friend he can learn from! He would also benefit from the home outside the city, as traffic can be pretty scary for this hunky dude. Want to meet Shadow? Email behavior@pspca.org today!
My name is Pepe (and my adoption fees are covered by Cam Johnston) and I'm four years old and as cute as a button! Seriously look at this face. How could anyone resist? Besides walking nicely on a leash I know "sit" and "come." My peeps tell me I'm a sweet, happy dog and they love to pet and snuggle with me. I bring lots of "awws" and smiles to people when they see me because of my good looks and charming personality. My vision of my new family includes older children who will take me for walks, play with me and share cuddles. If you want to meet me, email adoptions@pspca.org.
BEXLEY HERE! I'm a real big young goof who has been learning not to be a rebel with my leash manners and I've been doing awesome! I do love people, but I get a bit shy, so you have to go just a bit slow with me and give me all the good snackies! I absolutely love dogs! I get to play and help other dogs learn, while I'm here! So I would love a family that has another dog or has friends with furiends! I would do best with a family that has hoomans above the age of 12 and I'm unsure about cats. Please contact my best friends on the Behavior Team about me at: behavior@pspca.org
Hi my name is Guppy! I'm a big fish (puppy!) in a small pond, and I'm ready to adventure and explore the world with you. I'm a one year old playful puppy with big energy and a lot of spunk. Email his PenPals Andrea and Ian at angie.sun22@gmail.com and oz7826@yahoo.com
Hey Friend! My name is Poncho and I can not wait to meet you. I am a medium sized pup weighing in around 67lbs. We think I’m about 4 years old and a Philly bred mixed breed who's as loyal as they come. I know basic commands like sit, paw and down. My tail goes crazy when I see people I recognize and once we spend just a bit of time together we will be best friends forever. I need to be the only pet in a home and prefer a family with older or no kids, but will make up for that with the amount of love I have to give my new family. Poncho is available for foster or adoption. Email his PenPal, Rob at rbyer4@icloud.com
Gage started his little life as a puppy and grew into a stout and very handsome dog with eyes the color of honey and a smile as big as his head. Then suddenly Gage found himself at the friendly neighborhood animal shelter- oh no! But as happy as Gage is, there's one little thing that would make him even happier- a family of his very own! And maybe even have another dog that he can pal around with. Older kids that he can play with would be neat too! Email Gage's Pen Pals, Sheri and Tara, Harlow314@aol.com and Tarah617@gmail.com to learn more about Gage!

I love toys and get so excited anytime I see my human friends that I can hardly contain myself. I’m still learning how to contain my enthusiasm, so I prefer a family without young kids. Hi there! My name is Fluff. I'm a calm cuddly kitty who is also very handsome. Just look at my beautiful long fluffy tail. Being older means I've had more time to mature. None of that crazy kitten nonsense! I'll follow you around all day just to make sure you're okay. I don't necessarily like to be held but do enjoy laying on top of my foster mom and sitting in her lap. And sometimes she'll play with me using the string on a stick toy. I'd love a home with someone(s) who's looking for a snugly companion, If you think that could be you, email adoptions@pspca.org.
Yo! Maxx here. What's the deal? How much more handsome can I be to have someone want to adopt me? I'm affectionate, know basic cues (sit, down, shake, fetch) and I Iove to play and take walks. I'm a big guy and I do have a lot of energy but I'm also a champion snuggler and would be very happy to settle next to my person with a chew toy or a snooze. If you think I'd be a good fit for you and your family, contact our adoptions team at adoptions@pspca.org

Yo, my name is Tyson, and I'm interviewing humans to be my family. I've got high standards so you better be ready. You must have treats around and be willing to feed them to me when I do amazing things, like sit or lay down. Oh, and I have no patience for other pets or small humans just learning to walk; only full grown humans need apply. I don't do apartments or city life; I'm a country boy at heart. Lastly, I know I'm being picky, but I believe that perfect home is out there, waiting just for me. And I bet they're picky too. Email adoptions@pspca.org if you want to have an interview with me!

I recovered in a private hospital suite where my nurse friends fed me by hand and snuggled me every single day. Now that I'm healthy, I'm out and about, ready to make my own destiny! I found a lovely foster home with a cute little canine foster sister, and we're taking on the world! I can be a little shy to begin with, but I'm learning everyday that life is grand! I can't wait to find my forever home so I can settle into my new life. Email my friends at adoptions@pspca.org to learn all about me!
Meet Maverick! We found a wonderful foster home to transition her to, and we've learned so much about her! Maverick is an independent woman who is a very nice houseguest. She always cleans up after herself and her favorite things include soft beds and feline friends! She would be very happy to settle into a home that already has an established cat family - she doesn't need much, just a cozy place to relax, and a zen environment to settle into! Could she be the purrfect addition to your family? Email her pals at behavior@pspca.org to find out!
My name is Cassiopeia, but my foster mom calls me Cassi! I'm a mama cat who had five kittens and I'm not used to getting so much individual attention-but I am loving it so far. I enjoy when you read, sing, or play classical music for me, playing with my toys! I am still new to being around people and I like it if you don't make too much noise or any sudden movements. I am looking for someone patient and would be happy in a quiet home with a few humans. Learn more about me by submitting an application to adoptions@pspca.org and put Cassiopeia in the subject line
Hello there! My name is Lyoko and I would love to tell you all about myself. Well let's begin first with my volunteer friends who just love me because I am so sweet and affectionate. That's because I give them kisses and love to have my belly rubbed. I also love strolls in the grass where I can smell the little critters who went before me. As for my athletic ability, you are going to be super impressed. First I love chasing tennis balls, and I love, love the agility equipment. I am an expert on the cross beam and even do great on the see-saw. If you want to find out more and meet me, email my friends at adoptions@pspca.org
One of the cats involved in the recent 184 cat case, Leroy (#48) is ready to try to put it all behind him and get his life back. Izzy is a beautiful girl, with golden eyes and a multi-colored tortoiseshell coat. But she is more than just a pretty face. Smart, inquisitive, affectionate, and eager to please, Izzy will do best as the only cat in a quiet home where she can relax and be her mellow and loving self. https://bvspca.org/adopt/
Brain cancer devastated his owner and, in turn, Malaki, who is looking for a new family after losing his home of 5 years. He's a sweet, easy going boy who is ready to fit right into a home. He's house trained and crate trained, and he knows his basic commands. Malakai has done well in our dog playgroups and would be open to meeting other dogs in a home. https://bvspca.org/adopt/
Affectionate and playful, Gunner is crate-trained and loves to play with toys. A handsome fellow, he wants to please his new family. Gunner is open to other dogs, but he’d like the opportunity to meet them before making a commitment. He’s previously lived successfully with older children. Meet Oscar the Grouch! This happy boy is anything but grouchy! Oscar got his name because he was left in a dumpster and not found until a trash truck emptied the dumpster into the truck ...and he fell out :( Shortly after, he was adopted. And then found as a stray again. His people didn’t come for him. This is now his third time back at ACCT :( He’s still waiting for his forever home. And as the saying goes, Third time is a charm! This energetic playful 2yr old is so deserving of a forever loving home. Want to meet Oscar? Email PenPals@acctphilly.org
Hi Everyone! My name is Shy, and I’m anything but… I really enjoy making new human friends :) To tell you a little more about me, since I don’t like to toot my own horn, I’ll turn it over to my Pen Pal, Sharon…Shy is super smart, sweet, and very inquisitive. She’s happy to sit and shake if you ask, and she’s patient with us two-leggeds when we try to do silly things like give her a bath. Her only request is that she be an only-dog, she’s bursting with love and fun and really will be all you’d ever need. Don’t wait another minute to come meet this special girl. Want to meet Shy? Email her PenPal at milano96@hotmail.com
Haven’t picked out your Halloween costume yet? It’s not too late! Adopt Buck, and you can be the pepperoni to his pizza! Buck is a 4yr old medium-sized doggo. Do you love frolicking in nature? How about kisses on your face? Then I'm the guy for you! My name is Seymour and I am a goofy little dude who is looking to find a patient and experienced forever home. I already walk well on my leash and am learning to play with toys. I also try my best to stay housebroken while I'm here. If you have a fenced-in yard for me to goof around in and lots of patience, you will get rewarded with more snuggles than you can imagine! Want to meet me? Email my PenPals casilberman16@gmail.com and debbieflamholz@gmail.com
Clemont is only 4 years old and has been through so much already. Back in 2019, Clemont was abandoned in a play yard at ACCT Philly, with his food bowl and a broken heart as he watched his owner drive away. It took some time for volunteers to regain this sweet boy’s trust, but they did, and he was adopted! Just recently, he was found as a stray and brought back to ACCT :( Volunteers say “He is a REALLY nice dog! He has lots of playful energy, so he would love to live with an active family. He also loves to be pet and keeps coming back for more.” Interested in meeting Clemont? Email penpals@acctphilly.org
Hi, I'm Pumello but my foster mom calls need "Pumie." I enjoy booty scratches, treats, meal times, chatting, being showered with compliments and not living with dogs. I have another female cat playmate in my foster home and we get along great. I am strictly an indoor lady and get my fill of nature on my window perch. I do have some chronic sniffles that will need to be managed long term. My personal shelter hospital staff can tell you all about how easy it is to care for me. You can learn more about me by submitting an adoption application to adoptions@pspca.org.
Hi friends, I'm Luke! A handsome little fellow who made his way to Philly after being scooped up by a lovely good samaritan in Danville! I'm learning that being a city boy is pretty darn cool. My foster parents say I'm a pretty chill guy, I love playing with my dog foster sister, riding in cars, and having my hair blow-dried! I'm a very nice little man who is ready to find his forever home! Email my friends at adoptions@pspca.org to learn more about me.
Dates is a very handsome fellow who found his way to the shelter many months ago after being rescued from a situation of neglect. His foster reports: "He is so polite with everyone and has been purring and rubbing his head on dogs and cats. He is searching for a home, so if you know anyone who is looking for a very sweet, cuddly, senior (who still has lots of playful energy and follows me EVERYWHERE I go) please pass it on ! He's a man on a mission to settle down for good !" Email his friends at adoptions@pspca.org to learn more about him!
My name is Lil boy. I'm a preciously adorable "pocket-pittie" at just about 40 lb! I am a very sweet boy, who is shy in new situations, but once I figure out that you're a friend, I'll be a pal for life! A home with a private outdoor space would be a dream come true for me so that I can do my thing in peace. I'm also a big fan of other pups, so if I could wind up in a home with a confident resident pup to show me the ropes, that would make me so so happy! Please email my good friends at adoptions@pspca.org to learn more about me!
Meet Molly! This proper gal is none too fussed with the bright lights and bustle of the city. She's a queen supreme searching for her suburban (or rural) dream! A true homebody who prefers cuddles and Netflix over nights on the town, she's not looking to play games... unless it's with a ball, or another dog! If you have a nice yard out in the burbs and are looking for a best friend to enjoy woodland walks, river swimmies, and quality time on the couch, look no further. Molly is your gal! Email her pals at adoptions@pspca.org to learn more about this precious lady!
Ladii is a pint-sized 40lb peanut who fits perfectly in your lap — which is her favorite place to be! She’s so brave and smart and affectionate — and possibly the most loving dog I’ve ever had the privilege to know at ACCT Philly. We think she would prefer to be a one and only pet, because she wants to give you all of her love. Her ideal home would be an adult-only home, as loud noises and sudden movements startle her. Ladii is a great runner! And really loves going on hiking adventures. Do you want to add a lot of love and happiness to your every day? Email lovephillydogs@gmail.com and cstier@germerintl.com
Dylan is a shy guy at first (aren’t we all?) but give him some pets and a place to run and watch him SHINE. Dylan’s favorite hobbies include fetch (literally for hours), belly rubs, walks, snuggling his human, and learning new tricks! This 4 year old boy is INSANELY smart and knows sit, paw leave, come, and stay. This friendly boy LOVES humans and has a good track record with meeting other dogs at the shelter! All Dylan wants to do is please his new human. I would love to help you learn more about Dylan! Please email me at sabatins7272@gmail.com for more information!
Lola is an incredibly loving 7yr old senior lady. She bonds very quickly with humans and makes friends with everyone she gets to meet. She has no desire to chew on shoes or furniture. She is completely house-broken and seems to have no trouble holding her business until it's time to go outside. She LOVES going on walks, and her joy is pretty infectious when it's time to go outside! Even more than walking she loves RUNNING! She pulls pretty hard on her leash, and she is definitely in need of some good leash training. Interested in adopting Lola? Email her foster Emily at emartin878@gmail.com
Royal King is such a sweet and handsome fellow who is looking for a family (dog savvy teens are ideal) who will give him a consistent and predictable life. He also likes to use the agility equipment at the shelter and is really, really eager to please. Of course there is his silly side where if you run he chases you and when he catches up looks for a big hug. Moderate exercise each day is all he needs plus a warm cozy bed to cuddle up in at night. Since he has so much love to give, it is best that he is the only pet in the household. If you would like to find out more about this royal King, contact his friends at adoptions@pspca.org.
This little man was rescued from a hoarding-type situation several months ago. We sent Gus off to foster care so that he could decompress from his traumatic past and also learn how to be a real dog, living in a home! Gus has come leaps and bounds and is now ready to find a forever family. He's looking for a very special home, with other pets who can show him the ropes, and a low-key home environment that can give him lots of positive reinforcement and support to continue his journey. Please reach out to his pals at behavior@pspca.org to learn more about this stubby-legged fellow!

Tank lost his whole world when his family lost their home to fire and were unable to find housing that would accommodate him. He’s found the change a little overwhelming, but he’s showing his soft side as he’s gotten accustomed to the shelter. He can be a big of a big puppy and does best with adults and teens. Tank prefers a home as the top dog, and he’ll reward that choice with all the love and loyalty Akitas are known for. Find out more at https://bvspca.org/adopt/
Mystery feels like she's no mystery at all, she’s just a fun girl looking for a fun family. She’s a nice walking companion, and she’s been enjoying learning about all the adventures possible with toys. Mystery is full of love and looking to be your only fur-child. Find out more at https://bvspca.org/adopt/
Hi there. My name is Fluff. I am as friendly as I am handsome--so that means I'm very friendly! I'm 11 years old, but age is just a number! Being older means I've had more time to mature. I am social, but am also content to do my own thing. I like to be held, but I can get a little over-stimulated when being handled for too long. My slight sensitivities make me a good candidate for homes with older children who will be respectful of my me-time. If you are looking for a snuggly companion who is also independent, I could be the one for you! Please come to the PSPCA and consider giving me my second chance.
Introducing... the amazing, incredible, adorably short-legged, Buddy! His foster mom has worked incredibly hard to teach Buddy how to love and trust humans and he has grown leaps and bounds! She reports: "Buddy is a sweet and curious pup. He enjoys playing chase, catching tennis balls, and rolling in the grass. He is still learning to trust but has come a long way and will trade belly rubs for morning kisses!" Buddy is looking for a warm and loving home with people who can help him continue on his journey. Reach out to his friends at behavior@pspca.org
Where in the world can I find a dog I can take to brunch with me?" Well, my friend, look no further. Meet Lilo. She may be a little shy at first, but it doesn't take long for this love bug to come out of her shell. She's completely housebroken, knows how to sit, and does great with "leave it" commands! She doesn't mind cats, but would probably do better without young kids in the house until she's settled. Lilo is spayed and vaccinated. While she's so happy in her foster home, she'd love to have a permanent address. If you think you'd be a good fit for Lilo, reach out to our adoptions team at adoptions@pspca.org.
