Bird Is The Word: Bald Eagle Becomes National Bird Of US

There is not a more American symbol in the animal kingdom than the Bald Eagle. The follically challenged bird of prey is up there with apple pie, the Lincoln Memorial and late stage capitalism as a symbol of America. So why the hell is it that just now the Bald Eagle becomes the country's national bird?! Yes, in a symbolic signature, President Joe Biden made it official and put a ring on it. The Bald Eagle is finally getting its due after being a symbol of the United States of America for 242 years. Susan Lucci, step aside. How Did The Bald Eagle Get In The Spotlight Way back in 1782, only about 30 years after electricity was supposedly discovered, the bird got placed front and center on the Great Seal Of The United States. No, it isn't a hidden little thing, the bird is bigger than the frickin' red, white and blue on the seal. A good time to name it as the national bird, but they had other things to do like fight off the British. Congress did however name the Bald Eagle as the national emblem, which is essentially saying "here's America's logo". Fair enough, but when the Oak Tree got the official "national tree" shoutout from then President George W. Bush, he likely signed it while sitting at a desk with a picture of a Bald Eagle on it. How is it that no one thought about this until now. Did everyone just assume? Maybe it was a kind and loving animal perfect for children, but grew increasingly angry and became a hunter when it went more than two centuries without getting its flowers. We aren't sure why we are so heated about this, but alas. Congratulations, Bald Eagle. You're our official national bird. Now let's do something about that dome.
