The Andie Summers Show

13 Christmas Movies You’ll Watch Year After Year.

Don’t get mad at me if I left your favorite movie off of this list.  I love all of the classics but may have left off a few of them.  It doesn’t mean I don’t love the movie, it means I don’t watch it every single year.

This is the time of year when you flop through the channels on your television and stumble upon several Christmas movies.  You always see classic cartoons like The Grinch, Frosty the Snowman, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. You will also spot some other classics like Elf, Home Alone, Home Alone 2, or Jim Carrey’s version of The Grinch.  It does not matter what time of day, you can find a Christmas movie.  I am a huge fan of the classics and I’m not really into the newer Christmas movies.  My wife likes everything at Christmas.  She watches all of the Hallmark Christmas movies, the cartoons, etc… You can even put the burning Yule Log on TV and she will sit there and sing every Christmas song that plays.

I specifically enjoy Christmas comedy movies.  You can’t go wrong with National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. That movie in my opinion is the funniest Christmas movie of all time with Elf being a close 2nd.

Here is a hot take opinion that may not go over too well, well actually 2 hot take opinions.  I am not a fan of the movie A Christmas Story.  I think it’s super boring!  I understand the nostalgia and some of the classic quotes but it’s just old and boring.  Am I being a Scrooge? Probably! It plays for 24 hours on Christmas Day and my family never turns it on.  We would rather watch the parade than sports. My 2nd hot take opinion is that I can’t stand A Nightmare Before Christmas.  The movie is just plain creepy and it’s more of a Halloween movie.

Also, a few movies you won’t see are some classics like It’s A Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, Scrooged, Love Actually or White Christmas.  These are all great movies but they are not must-see movies every holiday.

Take a look at the greatest Christmas movies… Well, my opinion of the greatest Christmas movies ever!

  • The Santa Clause

This movie came out when I was a kid so of course I gravitated towards this one.  It’s a really good movie and Tim Allen plays a perfect Santa.

  • Elf

Will Ferrell in an Elf costume? Hilarious.  This is the perfect blend of Christmas and comedy.

  • Home Alone

Another childhood classic of mine.  Every kid my age wanted to be left home alone and set up booby traps in case of intruders.

  • Home Alone 2

The sequel to the classic Home Alone and they did not disappoint.  Is it better than the first? Probably not but the cameos and the one-liners are brilliant!

  • National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

I think this may be my favorite Christmas movie of all time.  This movie was constantly on in my house during Christmas time.  My dad is Clark Griswold to a T!

  • Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer

One of my 4 favorite Christmas cartoons.  Who doesn’t watch this movie every year?

  • Dr. Seuss's How The Grinch Stole Christmas

When I was a kid, I had this recorded on VHS.  I would watch it 300 times in a row and can quote the entire movie.

  • Frosty The Snowman

Happy Birthday! Another cartoon classic that was on repeat in my house as a kid.

  • A Charlie Brown Christmas

This could be the most classic Christmas cartoon movie ever created.  From the music to the quotes… It’s a classic!

  • Jingle All The Way

This came out when I was 11 and I’ve loved it every since.  I always wanted a Turbo Man action figure but I don’t think they ever made them.

  • The Grinch - Jim Carrey's version

My wife loves the movie, I am not really a fan.  It’s on every year so I tune in but I’m not happy about it. Haha!

  • Die Hard

People say it’s not a Christmas movie but I think it is.  I can watch this movie during Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, St. Patrick’s Day… You get the point.

  • Bad Santa

Do not watch this movie with children. It’s about as raunchy as you can get but I find it to be hilarious!
