The Andie Summers Show

The 2023 Country Music Association Awards, or CMAs, are coming up on November 8th, and that means it’s time to make our picks.  This is your chance to vote for CMA Male Vocalist of the Year. Scroll to the bottom for the list of nominees and to vote.

Have you ever wondered who chooses the winners? As a lifetime member of the CMA, I have the opportunity to vote for the awards you see given at the live broadcast ceremony in Nashville. I consider it a privilege, and not one I take lightly. As you are who we play the music for, I think it is only right for you to complete my ballot. You, XTU Nation, have a voice in who will be awarded the trophies at this year’s CMA Awards.

What is CMA?

Before we get into the categories, do you know what the CMA is? The Country Music Association was established in 1958, making it the first trade organization formed to promote country music. According to CMA World, the very first CMA Awards Show was a banquet held in 1967. It has become the longest-running annual music awards program on television.

The awards are voted on by the more than 6,200 industry professionals who are members of the CMA. And this year they have a tough row to hoe.

This year the CMA is celebrating its 57th year with the awards show set for November 8th, 2023. The event will be held at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena and will be hosted by Luke Bryan with Peyton Manning. You can watch the show live on ABC, or stream it on Hulu.

This year’s CMA Male Vocalist nominees have all had big hits in the past year. You can’t pry these guys off the charts. It is going to be a difficult decision, but you are up to the task.

Let’s take a look at the nominations for …

Male Vocalist of the Year

  • Luke Combs

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE - JUNE 08: Luke Combs performs on stage during day 3 of the 2019 CMA Music Festival on June 08, 2019 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Luke Combs is no stranger to the CMA stage. He is a 4-time winner (including 2-time Entertainer of the Year). He is up for four awards this year.

  • Jelly Roll

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE - MAY 30: Jelly Roll attends the "Jelly Roll: Save Me" Documentary World Premiere at the Ryman Auditorium on May 30, 2023 in Nashville, Tennessee.

One look at Jelly and you know you’re looking at a big personality. He is larger than life in every way and I guarantee, if you listen to his music and his interviews, you will find him relatable.

  • Cody Johnson

FRISCO, TEXAS - MAY 11: Cody Johnson performs onstage during the 58th Academy Of Country Music Awards at The Ford Center at The Star on May 11, 2023 in Frisco, Texas.

Cody Johnson, or “CoJo” as he’s called, started playing guitar at the age of 12. His roots are in Texas and they grow deep. CoJo has been on the CMA stage twice to pick up awards. Both for his song Till You Can’t. He took the trophies for Song of the Year and Video of the Year.

  • Chris Stapleton

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE: (FOR EDITORIAL USE ONLY) Chris Stapleton performs onstage at Nashville’s Music City Center for “The 54th Annual CMA Awards” broadcast on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Man, this category is tough. And we’re not even finished yet. Chris Stapleton is an enigma. The guy has the voice and the talent to be an artist in his own right, but he also shares his talent by writing songs for others. Here are some examples (among others):

    • “Never Wanted Nothing More” – Kenny Chesney
    • “Drink a Beer”- Luke Bryan
    • “Your Man” – Josh Turner
    • “Love’s Gonna Make It Alright” – George Strait

  • Morgan Wallen

Morgan Wallen performs at Irving Plaza

You can’t keep this man down. Morgan Wallen has proven his immense talent by taking ownership of the Billboard charts after withstanding public scrutiny. You may or may not like his life choices, but the guy is an amazing talent.
