Hell Froze Over, Jason Kelce Retires, and The Emmys
What do Hell freezing over, Jason Kelce and the Emmys have in common? They all happened over the weekend. Literally.
In the NFL, it was Wild Card Weekend. Here are Monday’s scores:
- Pittsburgh Steelers 17 – Buffalo Bills 31
- Philadelphia Eagles 9 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers 32
Bye, Eagles, Bye is what the tweet said from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last night following an emphatic 32-9 win over the Eagles. It is over for the Birds – and all we’re left with are there are so many questions …
- Is it over for Jason Kelce?
- Is it over for Nick Siriani?
A decisive yes to at least one of those questions, although, at the time I’m posting it Kelce has not yet made it official. Word is, after the game last night he told his teammates that he will retire. Nicole wrote a great piece about that HERE.
It’s official….Hell froze over.
But we mean the town of Hell, Michigan. After the Detroit Lions beat the L.A. Rams this past weekend, the “Detroit Free Press” posted a screenshot of the temperature in the town of Hell, Michigan on X, with the words “Confirmed: Hell froze over.” It was minus-three-degrees at the end of the game. And in true “Hell freezing over fashion,” it is the first time in 32-years that the Lions had a playoff win.

In related news …
The Emmys were held last night – much to Philadelphia native Rob McElhenney’s shagrin. (You know McElhenney from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.) McElhenney was captured sneakily watching the Eagles game on his phone while at the ceremony. The caption read:
Who schedules the Emmys the same night as the Eagles? Go birds!.
It didn’t help. The Eagles lost the Wildcard playoff game against the Bucs.

That being said, maybe it was worth it after all? McElhenney did not get to celebrate an Eagles win, but he did walk away with a trophy. The Emmy for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Show for Welcome to Wrexham.
