Bryan Tyree Henry from ‘Dope Thief’ Talks Shooting The Show in Philadelphia
Love crime dramas and need a new show to get into this year? Kristen chatted in the BEN studio with Bryan Tyree Henry from the newest crime drama on Apple TV+, Dope Thief.

Filmed here in the city of brotherly love, this show tells the story of two best friends, Ray and Manny, who front as DEA agents and rob trap houses. Their stunt quickly turns into life or death as the two come across the biggest hidden narcotics operation on the East Coast.
Kristen asked Bryan Tyree Henry how long he spent in Philadelphia while he was filming.
“You know, it was a very rare circumstance because we started January of 2023 and then by May of 2023, there was a writer and actor strike. So then we went down for about seven months. And then once that strike was lifted, we came back and finished. And so technically I was here for almost a year and a half. I chose during the strike to stay in Philly because one, why wouldn’t you? And I really wanted to stay anchored. in the town, in the city, and the people. And so I spent the entire strike here in Philly just to make sure I didn’t, you know, lose any essence of what my character, Ray, from the show was going through and just wanted to feel like a native. And so like the city welcomed me with open arms. It was wonderful.
Bryan Tyree Henry continued, “There was a lot that I discovered. I was like, oh, wait, there’s museums here…this time go-round, I got to experience a lot more of the culture of Philly.”
