Bucks County Sets Hazardous Waste Collection for April 5
Bucks County will hold a Household Hazardous Waste Program collection event on Saturday, April 5. During the event, residents will be able to properly dispose of items such as cleaning chemicals, vehicle batteries, pesticides, and flammable materials.
According to a Patch of Doylestown report, residents may bring up to 25 gallons or 220 pounds of hazardous waste products per household to the Newtown campus of Bucks County Community College on April 5 from 8:30 a.m. to. 2 p.m. The campus is at 275 Swamp Road in Newtown Township.
The county has provided the following list of acceptable items for disposal:
- Automotive products, including gasoline, motor oil, and antifreeze
- Batteries, such as rechargeable, lithium or button-type household batteries, and lead-acid batteries (car, marine, motorcycle, and truck)
- Degreasers and cleaners
- Fire extinguishers
- Fluorescent tubes
- Mercury thermometers
- Mini-propane tanks of two pounds or less
- Oil-based paint and paint products
Residents are asked to observe the following guidelines for safely transporting hazardous waste products to collection sites:
- Keep all products in their original containers with labels intact and lids screwed on tightly.
- Place materials in a secure box to prevent leaks.
- Wrap leaking containers in newspaper and place them in a rigid plastic container for transportation.
- Do not mix materials.
- Do not keep hazardous materials in a vehicle or other hot, unventilated areas for extended periods.
- Do not smoke near any chemicals.
- Recycle cardboard boxes at home.
The Bucks County Commissioners and Bucks County Planning Commission remind the community that this event is for the collection of residential household hazardous waste only. No items will be accepted from businesses or industries.
