We had an incredible evening at ALS Awareness Night at Citizens Bank Park and it came with a VERY big win for the Phillies, but we will get to that!
The Phillies’ Aaron Nola had a no-hitter through the sixth inning striking out 12 batters, ultimately the Phillies beat the Tigers 8-3. Trea Turner had four hits including two home runs, good to see him getting going!
What Is ALS Awareness Night?
ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Gehrig played baseball for the New York Yankees way back in the day. In 1941, he passed away from what was then a relatively unknown disease. Now, 82 years later, the reality is we don’t have a cure.
Here’s more from the Phillies website.
Lou Gehrig Day was created by Major League Baseball to remember the legacy of Lou Gehrig and all those who have been lost to the disease, raise awareness and funds for research of ALS, and celebrate the groups and individuals who have led the pursuit for cures.
What Is The Connection To Jeff Kurkjian?
So for those who don’t know me, I’m Jeff Kurkjian, cohost of The Andie Summers Show on 92.5 XTU and not only am I huge baseball fan, but I am also an ALS Awareness supporter!
My uncle (my dad’s brother) was diagnosed with ALS in the summer of 2021 and continues to fight every single day. Unfortunately, this year, he was unable to make it out to any ALS Awareness Night across Major League Baseball.
Here’s Jeff and his Uncle Matt back in 2022.
