7 Movies That Made Us Fall In Love With Patrick Swayze!

If you grew up in the 80’s, you were most likely a big fan of Patrick Swayze.  Girls drooled over him, guys wanted to be him. He was the man!

His life was cut short due to pancreatic cancer at the age of 57 but his legacy lives on.  The guy could do it all! He could act, sing, dance, and yeah… He was darn good looking.  So good looking that he won People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive in 1991. He started his acting career very early and learned to dance at a very young age.  His mother Patsy Swayze was a dance choreographer so that explains the moves you saw in Dirty Dancing.

He gained Hollywood notoriety in the film “The Outsiders” which featured a bunch of young Hollywood actors at the time.  They all became very famous including Patrick Swayze.  Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe, Ralph Macchio, Emilio Estevez, C. Thomas Howell, Matt Dillon, and Diane Lane. This movie helped spark The Brat Pack of the 1980’s.

His Hollywood breakthrough role came when he starred as Johnny Castle in Dirty Dancing.  If you are above the age of 35, you have seen this movie and most likely have tried to do the iconic dance lift that Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey did at the end of the movie.  This movie is iconic! He put on a heck of a performance not only showing his lead acting chops but also his dance moves.  This was one of the biggest movies of the 80’s and still remains a classic to this day.

After Dirty Dancing, you have Road House which is the best bad movie of all time. This role is the exact opposite of his Dirty Dancing role.  He shows his super tough side as a bouncer of a rowdy bar.

I don’t want to keep giving away his roles because the 3 I mentioned already definitely made the list… Let’s take a look at the list before I spoil the whole thing.

  • Darrel "Darry" Curtis in The Outsiders

This movie featured a new generation of actors who would take Hollywood by storm. You may have heard of some of them.

Patrick Swayze, Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe, Ralph Macchio, Emilio Estevez, C. Thomas Howell, Matt Dillon.

  • Derek Sutton in Youngblood

Patrick Swayze teams back up with his “Outsiders” buddy Rob Lowe in this hockey flick. A typical 80’s sports film and yes, you get all the feels!

  • Johnny Castle in Dirty Dancing

One word for this movie. ICONIC!  He shows off his acting chops, his dance skills, and even provides his singing voice for the song “She’s Like The Wind.”

  • James Dalton in Roadhouse

A badass movie.  This showed off Patrick Swayze’s tough side because all he did is beat the crap out of people.  Growing up he was big into martial arts and it was on full display in the classic!

  • Sam Wheat in Ghost

Wow, this movie takes you an emotional journey.  It makes you sad, happy, pissed.  He is in love with Demi Moore’s character and was betrayed and murdered by his best friend because of his greed. And of course… The Pottery scene?!?!?!!

  • Bodhi in Point Break

This is a must-see.  It’s a super cool surfer bank robber movie.  Usually, Patrick Swayze plays te good guy.  Not in this movie, he plays a super cool surfer dude who hangs with a gang of bank robbers.  Keanu Reeves stars in this film as well as an undercover agent who tries to bust Swayze’s character.

  • Vida Boheme in To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar

This movie was very different for Patrick Swayze along with his co-stars Welsey Snipes and John Leguizamo.  All 3 play drag queens who travel across the country to compete in a drag queen pageant.
