This daring dog rescue was caught on camera for your enjoyment and boy is it exhilarating! Thank goodness we know that everyone ended up okay so you don’t need to worry at all about that. We had to make this a Cup o’ Joy story because we love our first responders.

Video of Dog Rescue Goes Viral

On New Year’s Day, a dog named Leo fell from a seaside cliff onto a secluded section of beach along Oregon’s Pacific coast. A multi-agency rescue effort was initiated to save Leo involving three local fire departments and the U.S. Coast Guard, with video of the dramatic rescue posted online.

As the firefighters prepared to rappel down the cliff face to retrieve Leo, a Coast Guard helicopter aircrew intervened, lowering a rescuer with a hoisting basket onto the narrow, isolated strip of beach. The Coast Guardsman slowly approached the pup and placed him in the basket before the pair were lifted into the helicopter. They landed in a nearby parking lot where Leo was reunited with his grateful owners.

They later provided a positive update, sharing that after spending a night at an emergency vet, Leo was found to have only a few cuts and bruises and they’re hopeful he’ll make a full recovery. His owners expressed immense gratitude for the rescuers, relieved and thankful for Leo’s survival and his expected recovery.
