Drive In New Jersey? You Could Get Paid
The New Jersey Department of Transportation is looking for some help to be part of a new innovative called the Mileage-Based User Fee Pilot Program. All you need to do is drive around the state! Drivers who participate can earn $100 and will help policy makers explore potential alternatives to the fuel tax to maintain New Jersey’s roads and bridges.
Right now, New Jersey infrastructure is funded largely from a fuel tax paid by drivers on each gallon of gas they buy. Well, as vehicles go farther on less fuel it will be harder to maintain a well-functioning transportation system. So the state has to find money somewhere…they came up with a Mileage-Based User Fee means each driver contributes based on the miles they drive, instead of paying a tax on the fuel they buy.
You only need to have a valid driver’s license and vehicle to be eligible. If you sign up, you will receive a device that plugs in to your vehicle and records your mileage.
