Sports Illustrated Names Jalen Hurts ‘Philadelphia’s Newest Hero’
I’m just going to put this out there. Jalen Hurts is my favorite quarterback of the moment, and he might end of being my favorite of all time.
Everything about Hurts is inspiring, from how he’s dealt with adversity to how he’s fought to get to where he is today, going from understudy to the leading role. Now, Sports Illustrated has a feature published about Hurts’ story and how he’s become Philadelphia’s new darling.
The writer of the article, John Gonzalez, notes, “As a native and a longtime journalist in that city, I cannot stress how unusual it is for the town to put away the torches and pitchforks and throw open its arms for hugs. Hugging happens, just not usually after the fans and media have done a fair amount of kicking while someone was down. How Hurts has handled all that might be his biggest accomplishment of all.”
“I’ve been through a ton of different things and a ton of different experiences,” Hurts told Sports Illustrated, when asked about dealing with the pressure of being quarterback in Philly. “I’ve always felt like I was born for the storm.” Honestly, the quote, “I was born for the storm” gave me chills. I’ve often felt that way in life. Anyway, if you read through any of Hurts interviews, you’ll always find wise tidbits like that one.
Looking at any of his setbacks and how Hurts slowly fought to get to where he is today, he commented, “I had a little bit of a reflection the other day. When you tell someone to be patient … Be patient; it’s coming. Be patient, your play is coming. Be patient, whatever. I’m a living testimony to that.” Read the full story here.
