Bailey Zimmerman On Tour: What He Doesn’t Leave Home Without

Bailey Zimmerman doesn’t tour without this one thing and we got to see that firsthand when he invaded Philadelphia. Razz and I went to the show on Thursday night (3/14) and it was one of the most energetic shows the city has ever seen! Religiously The Tour is completely sold out and after watching just one song from Bailey, it is easy to see why.

The rise of Bailey Zimmerman is truly magical. From laying pipelines in 2019 to going viral on TikTok in 2020 to selling out an entire tour in 2024; Bailey Zimmerman is set to become a superstar.

But before Bailey even took the stage, someone else stole the show: his dog Marley Mae. Marley is Bailey’s 2-year-old Golden Retriever who has run the road with him for the last few years.

Bailey told me she is always in catering finding something to eat and is kind of a “dumpster” when it comes to food. Marley greets everyone backstage and is always up for some belly rubs.

Interestingly enough, Bailey says his Golden was never really trained but is always on her best behavior.

Except for that one time…

Bailey Zimmerman’s show includes pyro, videos, outfit changes, and tons of energy. Aesthetically his stage is very white. His guitars are bright white, his shoes are white, and even his opening outfit is completely white.

One morning Bailey was busy and forgot to walk his tour dog, Marley. He could tell Marley was mad at him during soundcheck. She strolled out on stage, looked into his eyes, and peed right on that very clean white carpet.

Bailey said that he hadn’t forgotten to walk Marley since.

Bailey Zimmerman’s live show wouldn’t be as energetic and connecting without his great songwriting.

Bailey told us he writes from the heart and just puts out music from his experiences. He also said he knows he wrote a good song “when it sounds badass.”

The great thing about country music is how open and normal the stars are. Bailey and his dog Marley spent an entire hour with us talking about his songs, his love for hair metal, and how grateful he is for every single person who shows up at his shows.

If you missed Bailey Zimmerman at The Fillmore, don’t worry! He’ll be performing this summer at Barefoot Country Music Festival from June 20-23 on the beach in Wildwood, NJ.

If you are lucky, you may even see his lovable Golden Retriever.

Top Five Country Songs About Dogs

With the release of Chris Young’s new song “All Dogs Go To Heaven,” depicting the heartbreak of losing your canine best friend, we got to thinking about what some of the best country music songs were about dogs, and we found some good ones.

Admittedly we were surprised Miranda Lambert didn’t have a dog song as she, along with her MuttNation foundation, does so very much for our canine friends. Miranda does have a song from 2020 called “How Dare You Love,” along with a lyric video that features pictures of dogs. She also performed on the ACM Awards with Chris Stapleton in 2021 for his song about his dog, “Maggie’s Song.” We did, however, find gems from Carrie Underwood, Stapleton, and more than one from Blake Shelton.

Here are our top five picks for country songs about dogs.

  • 5 - "The More Boys I Meet" - Carrie Underwood (2007)

    An early song from Carrie telling who she prefers her canine to the dating scene. The chorus sings, “And, I, I close my eyes / And, I kiss that frog / Each time finding / The more boys I meet, the more I love my dog.”

  • 4 - "I'll Name the Dogs" - Blake Shelton (2017)

    Blake won the CMT Music Awards’ Video of the Year award for the video for this song in 2018. The song’s chorus includes the lyrics, “I’ll hang the pictures, you’ll hang the stars / You’ll pick the paint, I’ll pick a guitar / Sing you a song out there with the crickets and the frogs / You’ll name the babies, and I’ll name the dogs, yeah.”

  • 3 - "All Dogs Go to Heaven" - Chris Young (2023)

    A great song about losing your best friend. The chorus sings, “All dogs go to Heaven / To spend forever running wild and free, off the leash / I know he’ll probably go before me / Oh, and that’s the day I’m dreadin’ / But he’ll be waiting on me at the gates / ‘Cause all dogs go to Heaven.”

  • 2 - "Maggie's Song" - Chris Stapleton (2020)

    Chris wrote this song about losing his family’s beloved lab terrier dog.

  • 1- "Ol' Red" - Blake Shelton (2001)

    Blake’s version of this song has become a classic and is also the name of his bars in various cities, including Nashville, soon in Las Vegas, and in Oklahoma. The song was originally recorded by George Jones on his 1990 album; You Oughta Be Here with Me. Kenny Rogers also covered it on his 1993 album If Only My Heart Had a Voice. The chorus includes the lyrics, “And the warden sang / Come on somebody / Why don’t you run / Ol’ Red’s itchin’ to have a little fun / Get my lantern / Get my gun / Red’ll have you treed before the mornin’ comes.”
