10 Good Deeds You Can Do, Too! #fabulist

You get to a certain age when you realize you get more gratification out of giving than receiving. If you’re that age, and you need a little pick-me-up this holiday season, check out this list of Good Deeds that won’t take up much of your time or energy. A recent survey asked people, “What is one thing you can do that would be considered a Good Deed? Here’s what they said:

  • 1. (TIE) Be kind to strangers (55%)

    No excuse to not be kind.

  • 1 - (TIE) Actively recycle (55%)

    You’re probably doing this already. Well done!

  • 3 - Pick up trash/litter you see around the neighborhood (49%)

    I’m always dumbfounded when I see someone throw trash out their car window. The best thing you can do to combat that behavior is to let people see you pick up after, not only yourself, but others, too!

  • 4 - Donate money to charity (48%)

  • 5 - Give money to homeless people you see on the streets (43%)

    Are you really going to notice a couple bucks that could make a big difference to someone in need?

  • 6 - Donate clothing to charity (38%)

    They say less is more. Time to purge the closets and give your good taste to those who can’t afford it.

  • 7 - Volunteer (35%)

    What do you love to do? I’ll bet there’s a charity for that. Find it. Volunteer.

  • 8 - Donate food to a food bank or shelter (32%)

    Next time you’re tossing left-overs, think about people who would really appreciate a taste of your good food. When you’re making food for your family, make an extra plate for those less fortunate, freeze it, and donate it!

  • 9 - Pay it forward (I.e., at a coffee shop, the grocery store) (35%)

    One cup of coffee can last for hours. Make it happen.

  • 10 - Donate blood (12%)

    My dad used to donate blood. That was back in the day when the Red Cross would call the house to tell you it’s time to give. I would always say, “he’ll give at the office,” thinking I was just putting them off. Turns out my dad donated gallons of blood in his life. When I asked him why, he simply replied, “why wouldn’t I?”
