Congratulations Pennsylvania! You did it. You have consumed more mini bottles of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky than ever before. 4.6 million bottles of it. Four times more than the number two seller New Amsterdam Vodka which sold 1.6 million bottles. Pennsylvania What is going on?
Perhaps these little bottles of juice help us deal with stress, potholes, or the long cold winters. Maybe it’s because you’ll tailgate at everything! Tailgaters pop up at concerts, ballgames, laser shows and some even tailgated in the 6ABC parking lot on the day Jim Gardner hosted his last newscast. As he was exiting the 6ABC building and saw the Fireball drinking fans he remarked “You guys are crazy”.
Remember the old saying “You are what you eat”? Maybe we are what we drink.
If you look up Fireball consumer blogs the ratings don’t look so good. It used to contain anti-freeze compounds, it gives you a bad hangover, it’s weak and has a no taste. Some even say it leads to terrible decisions. The recipes are suspect with names like Cake Balls, Tha MAN-mosa, Dragonade, and Hot Nuts.
I’m not saying that I have the most perfect palate. I spent my college years at Slippery Rock University drinking cases of Old Milwaukee. In fact, when I was there Playboy Magazine named Ole SR as the number 1 party school in America. But can we do a little better? Should we? Here’s a breakdown of the 2021-2022 top 25 spirits sold by units in Pennsylavania.
