Free Breakfast For All Kids In PA Schools
Breakfast really does set the tone for the day. Ever try concentrating with hunger pangs in your belly?! It’s hard. Well, the state of Pennsylvania wants to make sure that no child starts the day unable to concentrate. Last week, Governor Tom Wolf announced that the state will provide every student with free school breakfast for the remainder of the academic year, regardless of household income.
The program begins October 1st and will last through the end of the 2022-2023 school year.
The price tag for this program is $21.5 million in state funds. The Universal Free Breakfast Programwill impact more than 1.7 million children enrolled in public, private, and charter schools. Childcare facilities that participate in the free meal program will also be eligible.
Philly Voice also reported, “In August, the Wolf administration created the Hunger-Free Campus Initiative to address hunger among college students in Pennsylvania. The program expands college food pantries in a larger effort to tackle food insecurity among students. ”
