Dolly Parton To Release ‘Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones’

Author Nancy Brooks // Country Writer, Beasley Media Group
March 23rd 2:29 PM

Dolly Parton has announced the release of a new book she wrote with her niece Rebecca Seiver and writer Holly George-Warren. The book, Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones focuses on Dolly’s fashion through the years. It will be released on October 17, 2023.

Dolly said in a statement, “I am happy, proud, and excited to present my book ‘Behind the Seams’ to the public. It is my hope that you will enjoy a look at my life in costume and hair and get to know some of the great people who have helped shape my life and my look. Enjoy!”

The book will feature behind-the-scenes stories from Parton’s life and career and the largest reveal of her private costume archive. The photographed book spotlights her most iconic looks from the 1960s to now. The sky-high heels, famous wigs, bold makeup, eye-catching stage clothes—she shares them all.

Along the way, Parton discusses memorable outfits from her past. She includes the clothes her mother would sew out of feed sacks. She also writes about the bold dresses and hairdos that shook up Nashville. And, yes, the bunny suit on the cover of Playboy.

Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones is the second book in a trilogy. The first was 2020’s Songteller: My Life in Lyrics. The book will also be available as an audiobook read by Dolly.

Parton and Vinyl Me, Please recently announced a monthly record club devoted to the legendary career of Parton. In April 2023, Vinyl Me, Please, and Parton will begin sending club members Records of the Month, spanning Dolly’s recording career.

Dolly said, “I love listening to records, and to know that fans worldwide are discovering music on vinyl is wonderful. I am really happy to see some of my favorite albums that have been out of print on vinyl or were never pressed on vinyl be made available. What’s old is new again!”

Dolly says this is her favorite song to sing. It's what she is known for, not to mention the Whitney Houston hit.

  • 1 – “Jolene” – 1974

    Share

This song is a marvel and it's been my ring tone since 1995. You know, Dolly says she can't totally remember but speculates that she wrote this song and "I Will Always Love You" on the same day. What a day!
