Spicy Books Are All the Rage
If you’re not on BookTok, we’re here to help. It’s a huge community of people on TikTok who not only share their love and reviews of books, but it’s become so popular, the book community has seen such an uptick in sales it’s saved many local bookstore and given authors a new lease on life.
Spicy Books Even Have Their Own Book Store
A bookstore Lovestruck Books, opened in Boston this past December and it solely dedicated to romance books. Rachel Kanter, the owner of the bookstore, hails from Keene, N.H. and came to the indie book world from education where she taught high school English and worked in education nonprofits. Opening the bookstore is “a dream come true,” she said. Not only is it a bookstore, but there is a coffee shop and wine bar attached to it. The idea of a former English teacher following her dream to open a romance bookstore, coffee shop and wine bar in the middle of a city sounds like a rom-com waiting to happen.
*These books are spicy, so if you’re listening to the audiobook, it’s definitely 18+ material. Ha!
Spicy Books To Heat You This Winter
“Heated Rivalry” by Rachel Reid- Two star hockey players – who are drafted #1 and #2 by the NHL have a 13 year long relationship. Shane and Ilya might be two of the best characters of all time.
“The Long Game” by Rachel Reid – The sequel to “Heated Rivalry” – there is more depth and more serious topics, while still being funny, sexy, and sporty.
“Wreck The Halls” by Tessa Bailey – Sexy, hilarious standalone holiday rom-com about the adult children of two former rock stars who team up to convince their estranged mothers to play a Christmas Eve concert. There is also a who-done – it – part of the book which keeps you guessing the whole time.
“Him”, “Us,” and “Epic” by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy – A 3 book series of two best friends who meet at an elite hockey camp as kids. Something happens and they don’t speak for almost four years until their teams are set to play each other in the College Hockey Championship The Frozen Four.
“Icebreaker” by Hannah Grace – a college figure skater meets a college hockey star. Both have Olympic and NHL dreams, but numerous obstacles come between them. Think “The Cutting Edge” modern version.
“Scoring With Him”, “Winning With Him”, “All In With Him” by L Blakely – a 3 book series of two Major League baseball players who meet at Spring Training – one is a rookie, one is an established all-star. The 3 part series spans over the course of 20+ years of Grant and Declan. Swoon.
“Dating Dr Dil” by Nisha Sharma – a love-phobic TV doctor who must convince a love-obsessed homebody they are destined to be together – even though they both don’t believe it. It’s full of laughs, spice, and Indian culture.
“The Idea of You” by Robin Lee – A 40-year-old single mom begins an unexpected romance with a 24-year-old boy band singer (think Harry Styles). The book was so popular, they made it into a movie starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine. If you haven’t seen it, add it to the list asap.
“Red White and Royal Blue” by Casey McQuiston – one of my favorite books of all time. It’s so funny and clever and heartwarming and tells the story of an unexpected romance between the son of the U.S. president and the Prince of England. It was such a massive success, it became an even more popular rom-com starring Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez. I loved this book and movie so much I read and watched it numerous times.
