Lady Antebellum On Dolly Parton: ‘One Of The Best Songwriters Of All Time’
On Saturday night (10/12), Dolly Parton will be playing the Grand Ole Opry and celebrating her 50th Anniversary as a member of the Opry family. Several special guests will be on the Opry as well, performing Dolly’s songs and paying tribute to her including Hank Williams Jr., Emmylou Harris, Chris Janson, Toby Keith, Dierks Bentley and Lady Antebellum.
Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley said, “When we got asked to be a part of the event to honor Dolly, I mean, it’s humbling. Dolly is one of the best songwriters of all time and has been in so many different facets of the business. She kind of set the bar high. I’m sure Reba learned from watching Dolly.”
Hillary Scott, who said she’s only met Dolly a few times, adds, “She has ventured so far out from what you could say is country music, but never departed from it. I just love that she is her, she has not wavered from who she is. I just can’t wait to get a second and hug her neck and tell her how honored we are to be there.”
Meanwhile, NBC will be airing the special evening as “Dolly Parton: 50 Years at the Grand Ole Opry” on Tuesday, November 26 from 9-11 p.m. ET/PT.
Parton said of the TV special, “I’m so thrilled to be celebrating my 50-year anniversary with the Grand Ole Opry. I’m also excited that NBC wanted to share in this milestone with me. Together we hope to entertain a broader audience on what the Grand Ole Opry is and what it means to me. We have some special treats, surprises and great performances by some very talented artists and I’m looking so forward to sharing it with you.”
