Grease Spin-Off Coming To HBO Max

HBO Max has announced that they will produce a Grease spin-off. Variety explains that Grease: Rydell High will be a straight to series order set in and around the world of Rydell High from the original film.
An HBO Max rep says the spin-off “Reimagines the movie with some familiar character, as well as a host of new ones. It will still take place in the 1950s, in a world that rocks with big musical numbers from the period combined with new original songs as well.”
They also add, “We’re going to build out the world of this show which everybody loves, in that musical style, and build basically a ‘High School Musical’ kind of experience that will be a big fun rock and roll musical.”
HBO Max will launch in 2020.
