Sylvester Stallone Pitches Rocky Prequel Series
Sylvester Stallone is at it again!
Sylvester Stallone revealed his next big idea for the Rocky franchise: a prequel TV series.
Stallone posted the handwritten pitch to his official Instagram page.
Stallone hopes for a a multi-season 10-episode series that focuses on 17-year-old Robert “Rocky” Balboa. He wants the show to “really get to the heart of the characters in their younger years.”
Since the original Rocky film took place in 1976, the prequel would be set in the 1960s.
“Imagine a time machine that will simply transport us back to the origins of Rocky,” Stallone’s note reads. “A cinematic world brimming with characters that have been beloved by people around the world for nearly five decades!” He then goes on to write, “Climbing aboard that time machine that will takes us to the most transformative generation in modern history: The Sixties.”
At the end of the note, Stallone listed off notable events that would play a part in the new show- including the moon landing, the sexual revolution, the new left, the hippie movement, the Cold War, the Cuban missile crisis, and the Civil Rights movement.
Since the original movie came out, there has been seven sequels: Rocky II (1979), Rocky III (1982), Rocky IV (1985), Rocky V (1990), Rocky Balboa (2006), Creed (2015) and Creed II (2018). The eight sequel (Creed III) is set to be released in 2022.
