Sam Hunt’s ’23’ Was Inspired By A Day At The Beach
Sam Hunt’s latest single “23” is a song he says he wrote while on a beach, and from what he told us, it was a few years in the making.
Sam said of the song, “That’s one that I’ve had and tried to work up for several years. A lot of times, you’re just one word or one little change away from an idea turning into a song.”
He continued, “We were down at the beach; we happened to be at the beach; that may have had something to do with it. We were down there, and it’s easier to tap into that nostalgia when you’re at the beach, thinking back to trips you know from your youth. But who knows? But I’m glad that it worked out that day because we wrote it in probably two hours, which is pretty rare for me.”
The song’s lyrics appear to be inspired by a lost love. They read, “No matter where I go, no matter what I do / I’ll never be 23, with anyone but you / You can marry who you want / Go back to Tennessee / But you’ll never be 23 with anyone but me.”
Sam’s wife Hannah filed for divorce in February, just as the couple is expecting their first child together.
