Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani Cover The Judds
Last week Wynonna told us to look out for a star-studded tribute album dedicated to The Judds. On it, the music of Wynonna and her late mother, Naomi Judd, is covered by some of the greatest country artists alive today. Look at who signed on: Wynonna (of course), Dolly Parton, Jelly Roll, Reba McEntire, Lainey Wilson, Carly Pearce, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Trisha Yearwood, Ashley McBryde, Gabby Barrett, LeAnn Rimes and more!
Earlier this week we got our first taste of what is to come. Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani team up to duet on The Judds classic, “Love Is Alive.” Gwen shared it on Instagram.
Love Is Alive
According to Billboard, “Love is Alive” was recorded by The Judds’ and released in May of 1985. It is the third single from the album “Why Not Me,” and spent 14 weeks (about 3 months) on the charts. The song became The Judds’ fourth number-one country hit.
There are a couple more songs we know to be on the album: “Girls Night Out” performed by Reba McEntire, Carly Pearce, Gabby Barrett and Jennifer Nettles. Dolly Parton and Lainey Wilson cover “Mama He’s Crazy.”
Why now?
The album celebrates the 40th anniversary of The Judds, the mother-daughter duo Naomi and Wynonna founded in 1983. The Judds were one of the most successful acts in country music. The duo racked up five Grammy awards and nine Country Music Association (CMA) awards. They signed a record deal with RCA in 1983 and then released six studio albums before they took a break in 1991.
This past year has been one of healing for Wynonna, as well as fans of The Judds music. Naomi died by suicide in April of 2022 after a long bottle with mental health issues. Her death came the day before she and Wynonna were to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. The Judds’ impact on country music is indelible and clearly loved and respected by artists even today.
The album “A Tribute to The Judds” is slated to come out October 27, 2023.
