Carrie Underwood Fans Sound Off On Her CMA Awards Absence
Carrie Underwood was not present at the CMA Awards last week (11/8) for the first time in her superstar music career, which kicked off in 2005. She didn’t sit and cheer on her contemporaries in the audience and did not walk the red carpet with her husband on her arm. Even though she was nominated for the night’s top award– Entertainer of the Year — she was, surprisingly, absent.
As we all know, Lainey Wilson took home the night’s top prize of Entertainer of the Year, beating out Underwood in her only 2023 CMA nomination, and fans of Carrie are not happy about it.
Last week, the superstar posted about her upcoming residency dates at Las Vegas’ Resorts World, and fans shared their feelings about their “Queen” not getting the top CMA honor, an award she has never won. She has, however, won the award three times from the ACMs (2019, 2009, and 2008).
Underwood posted to Instagram on the same night the CMAs were handed out in Nashville, along with a handful of photos, “3 weeks until #REFLECTION @resortsworldtheatre! axs.com/carrieinvegas Nov 29 Dec 1-16.”
She added, “And don’t forget we have added more dates in 2024!
March 6 – 16
May 22 – 31
June 1
August 14 – 24.”
Several of her 13 million fans reacted on Instagram to that news with the CMAs on their mind. One fan wrote, “I am so glad everyone is here saying she should have been EOTY! I didn’t watch the CMAs this year, and I am glad I didn’t. I’m so disappointed at how country music is treating you. You deserved the biggest award for country music this year!! I am sad.” Another spirited fan said, “Queen! #EOTY #CMAForverWinner #Mom #Wife #Writer #FitnessQueen #Singer #Actress #FashionQueen #Gardener #SheIsUnstoppable.” One more fan commented, “Love u, Carrie, such a great entertainer.”

In other Carrie news, some fans are wondering what became of her duet with Cody Johnson. Johnson recently explained where his Carrie Underwood duet is after teasing the duet in June at CMA Fest.
Johnson told us in a recent interview, “I guess I can just go ahead and tell you, it’s on the deluxe edition. The issue is when you’re dealing with an artist of that caliber, you have to be very respectful of their time. You have to be respectful of their tour when they’re releasing an album, when they’re releasing a single.”
Cody continued, “Carrie was so gracious to work with. I respect her so much as a vocalist and an artist. I think a lot of newer artists would have got that (duet) and said, ‘Look, I have a duet with Carrie Underwood! Look, look, look!’ I’m very thankful she did it, so I don’t care when it comes out. I know that it’s done. I know that when the timing is right, it will be beautiful.” He added, “I think it’s something that’s gonna be trajectory-altering as a single if it gets to be a single.”
