Phillies Announce JT Realmuto Out Indefinitely in Mid-Season Shocker
This is a shock. Phillies announce JT Realmuto is out indefinitely starting today. After beating the Mets in one game across the pond in London, JT is going on IR and it’s kind of shocking to all of us. First Trea Turner had a left hamstring injury, and he’s still out. Then Brandon Marsh had a right hamstring injury, which was recent, and unfortunately Brandon Marsh missed the trip across the pond to London. And now we get the awful news about JT Realmuto. JT did play in London and was amazing, so he clearly must be great at dealing with pain tolerance.
JT Realmuto Is Important
Our sister station 975 The Fanatic made a point to explain how important JT is to the Phillies. A baseball expert went so far as to say he’s the most important player on the team. JT is 33 and has been with the Phillies since 2019. The Phillies traded for JT first and then a few weeks later signed Bryce Harper.
JT Realmuto Will Have Surgery
The type of surgery is promising since he won’t a full meniscus repair. Reports are saying he could be back by mid-July which is very good news. It’s also important to take note he’s having the surgery in Philadelphia, so that’s good as well. He’s being placed on a 10 Day IR so it gives some hope he’ll back back sooner than later. Obviously he’ll be out longer than 10 Days, but that’s where they start. NBC Sports Philadelphia reported: The Phillies’ terminology was “knee pain.” Realmuto has been dealing with but playing through soreness in the knee for about a month.
The Phillies have dealt with a lot of big injuries over the last few weeks. It does seem typical that just when the Phillies were cooking by being the best team in Major League Baseball, a huge injury happens. Again, it’s good that it’s happening now and not in September or October when winning really matters. Who will replace him? Rafael Marchan was recalled from AAA.
