Getting a Real ID in New Jersey Just Got Easier
You may have heard appointments to get a Real ID have been booking up fast and it is something New Jersey residents need to do before May 3,2023.
Well the process just got a little easier. Drivers will no longer need to show a Social Security card or other documentation to prove their Social Security number, thanks to changes in the federal Real ID law. A Social Security number can now be electronically verified with the Social Security Administration database.
This also allows the MVC to reuse existing photographs of drivers taken by the state and used to issue a person’s current driver’s license.
A Real ID can also be obtained when renewing your drivers license at your local motor vehicle agency. Be sure to bring your 9 points of identification. More information can be found at NJMVC.gov.
