Cody Johnson’s Young Daughter Plays Photographer For Dad
Cody Johnson released his new song, “The Painter,” in August. It’s the first single from his forthcoming album, due out later this year. The song was written by Benjy Davis, Kat Higgins, and Ryan Larkins.
Cody’s team posted a video clip and some photos on Instagram of his 8-year-old daughter, Clara Mae. She’s seen holding a camera and taking pictures.
Additionally, the video clip shows Clara Mae and Cody’s wife, Brandi, in what looks like the song’s video. Clara Mae is seen taking photos of her parents as they walk. His team wrote over the clip, “Cody’s daughter wanted to help photograph for ‘The Painter.'” In a black and white photo of the couple in the clip, they write, “How great is this picture she took?”
Many fans responded to the post, including one who wrote, “Such a sweet lady!!! I’m glad I had the opportunity to meet her and her friends, along with driving them around!” Another fan commented, “That’s actually amazing. Better than me.” One more fan said, “So cool! Love it.”

Even though Cody did not write the song himself, it’s about his marriage. He said, “My favorite lyric in ‘The Painter’ is ‘For every wall I built, she saw a canvas.’ If there’s anything that describes my marriage with my wife, Brandi, it’s that line. And that’s why we’ve been together for 15 years.”
Johnson added, “I hope my fans are encouraged to take the time to appreciate the people they have around them. The ones who make their life beautiful and bring all the beautiful colors to their world when it could just be black and white and dark. Remember them and tell them you love them.”
“The Painter” is the follow-up to Cody’s career-making, two-week #1 single”‘ Til You Can’t.” The song also won Cody the Grammy for Best Country Song in 2023.
