Flying Frontier Airlines: Know Before You Go
Before flying Frontier Airlines, here are some important things to keep in mind.
I recently flew Frontier Airlines for the first time. I knew there were many things I needed to learn for my first trip to make it as easy as possible.
I was flying from Philadelphia to Atlanta to meet my new niece. I only had a day to do this. So I took off a random Tuesday and booked my flight three weeks before my travel date. I was able to fly to and from Atlanta in one day for $89. This even included a bigger seat at the front of the plane on the return flight. I had never flown to and from a destination within 24 hours. I figured this was as good of a time as any to try flying Frontier Airlines for the first time.

Here is a checklist of things to know when flying Frontier Airlines:
- Learn About Frontier Airlines: Being an economy airline comes with some caveats. If you know what you are getting into BEFORE you book your trip you can plan accordingly and hopefully there won’t be any surprises.
- Download The App: This makes tracking your flight, gate and checking in super easy. I purchased my flight on here as well.
- Baggage Limits: Regardless of a small personal item, you must pay if you want to carry on or check a bag. Check the Frontier Airlines baggage sizes before booking to ensure you have an appropriate bag for your choice. If the gate agent suspects your bag is larger than what you paid for, they might check its size during boarding. It’s a quick process, and they’re just doing their job.
- Select A Seat: Consider paying a bit extra for seat selection. You don’t need the most expensive seat, but having the choice of aisle or window can make your flight more comfortable.
- Check In 24 Hours Before Your Flight: Don’t skip this step! If you don’t check in online before your flight you may have to pay extra at the gate to check in and get a seat assignment.
- Bring Snacks and a Drink: They do not have free beverages (including water) or snacks when flying Frontier Airlines. Grab a non-alcoholic beverage (after getting through TSA) and pack a bag of snacks. If you forget to grab something before you board, they do offer options to purchase on the flight.
So, how did I prepare for my trip? I found a large purse that fit the size requirements for a personal item. I checked in to my flight exactly 24 hours prior to its departure. I brought a small bag of trail mix, a protein bar and an empty drink tumbler. I filled the tumbler after getting through TSA. All of these steps saved me money on my flight.
