PooPrints: Are These Apartment Rules Too Strict?
Donnie’s apartment complex is sick of the waste that residents are leaving by not picking up after their pets. They have a solution – to take every dog’s DNA and compare it to the poo that hasn’t been picked up.
Here’s the email that was sent to all residents.
Dear Residents,
As a pet-friendly Community with a large amount of dogs, we are instituting a program called PooPrints in order to help prevent and decrease the amount of un-scooped pet waste throughout the Community. PooPrints is a company that uses the DNA from dogs’ cheek swabs and compares it to waste samples to identify who hasn’t picked up after their pet.
Every dog, must be registered with the Leasing Office. Starting today every dog owner must schedule a day and time to visit our office with their dog(s) to provide us with a cheek swab sample of their pet and to get registered in the PooPrints system by December 15th, 2022.
When you bring your dog to the office, you will swab your dog’s cheek with the provided kit and fill out a registration card. We will submit the DNA sample to PooPrints. You will be given a tag to put on your dog’s collar. The tag is mandatory so that we can easily distinguish between who lives here and who does not, and it will help prevent non-residents from using the Dog Run.
Once the registration of all dogs is complete, any pet waste found on the property will be submitted for analysis. Waste samples will be compared to the cheek swab samples on file and the pet owner who did not pick up will be fined $250.00.
We love all the dogs here and we are looking forward to providing this program that will help us keep our Community clean and sanitary.
Thank you
