Women’s Health With Dr. Nermin Lazarus, Lead Physician, Exuberan by Virtua

Nicole Michalik and Marisa Magnatta speak with Dr. Nermin Lazarus, DO Lead Physician, Exuberan by Virtua. They discuss women's health, more specifically menopause. Women's Health and Menopause Menopause is marked by a natural decline in reproductive hormones when a woman reaches her 40s or 50s. It is not a disease or disorder, but there are symptoms. Some women don't have any trouble with menopausal symptoms and may even feel relieved when hit this stage. For other women, the menopausal transition can bring hot flashes, trouble sleeping, moodiness and irritability, depression, or a combination of these symptoms. Some may decide to talk with their doctor about lifestyle changes or medications to treat their symptoms. It is a normal part of adult life for women, but a lot of things about it are not widely discussed. This conversation aims to shed light on lesser-known symptoms of menopause and bring up common questions that many women may be too embarrassed or nervous to ask their OB/GYN. Some of the topics discussed include: As a medical professional, what inspired you to specialize in women’s health and, more specifically, menopause management? What is the difference between peri-menopause and menopause? Can you explain what that entrance into this phase is like? Is it sudden? Does it have been gradually over a short amount of time? Over a long time? What can we expect? So how do you know when you are entering that peri-menopause phase? What is the difference between hormone therapy and bioidentical hormone therapy? How does bioidentical hormone replacement therapy work? What do you find most rewarding about guiding women through their menopausal transition? Outside of seeking medical intervention for menopause symptoms, in your experience, what personal advice would you offer to someone who is navigating menopause? Find out more at Virtua Health.
