New ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Spinoff in Talks
Shonda Rhimes is at it again!
Another Grey’s Anatomy spinoff is in talks and ABC Signature is making it a priority according to Deadline.
Krista Vernon, the franchise’s showrunner and Shonda Rhimes, the creator are still bouncing around ideas and details for the newest series.
ABC’s President Joannie Davis released a statement to Deadline that showed enthusiasm over Rhime’s and Vernon’s new project.
Krista and the team are really digging deep and finding out what that looks like. We’re noodling ideas left and right and I can’t wait to, when we land on what that is to introduce the next phase of Grey’s Anatomy,” stated Davis. “We will find the next version that will take it to the next 18 years. We’re working on for right now, and there’s no better brains to figure it out than Krista and Shonda.”
Davis went on to say that he will only be producing the spinoff if it is the right move for the franchise. “It’s important that not just for commerce, it has to be the right idea that meets the moment.”
This would be the third Grey’s Anatomy spinoff after Private Practice and Station 19.
The news comes recently after the season renewals of Grey’s Anatomy (18) and Station 19 (5).
Grey’s first aired in 2005 on ABC and has made history as the longest-running primetime medical drama in TV history.
