Eagles Name Team Captains For the 2023-2024 Season
The Eagles season is finally here. In under a week, they will be traveling to New England to take on the Patriots. We have already learned who has made their 53-man roster. Shortly after that, they started to put together their practice squad. But now, 5 days before game 1, they have announced their team captains.
Offense:
- Jalen Hurts (2nd Time Captain)
- Devonta Smith (1st Time)
- AJ Brown (1st Time)
- Lane Johnson (2nd Time)
- Jason Kelce (6th time)
Defense
- Fletcher Cox (6th Time)
- Brandon Graham (5th Time)
- Darius Slay (2nd Time)
Special Teams
- Jake Elliott (2nd Time)
Hurts, Johnson, Kelce, Cox, Graham, Slay, and Elliott were all Captains last season too. But both Smith and Brown will wear the C for the first time this season. And clearly for AJ Brown, getting named Team Captain means a lot.
“It meant everything to me just to get the respect from your peers, your teammates, to know that you’re being watched and they value what you say and how you go about your day. For them to pick me as a captain tells me that they trust me. That means a lot to me.”
It will be just his second season with the team, but clearly Brown made quite the impact with his teammates in that one season. And not just because he led the team with 1,496 yards. As for Smith, Brown called him out as a guy who leads by example, not words. Brown said he is the guy who “just lines up and goes to work.”
Cox and Kelce are the longest-tenured team captains, with both of them going into the 6th season as Captains. They have been leaders on the team longer than most of the guys on the roster have even been here. Graham is now going into his 5th season as captain. And now Hurts, Johnson, Slay, and Elliott are team captains for the 2nd time.
Here is a look at their full roster:
