The City of Philadelphia And Bryce Harper Are Perfect Together
Never since 1701 has a city and a player been more perfect together than Bryce Harper and the city of Philadelphia. We’ve come close when Brian Dawkins arrived in 1996. Our love affair with Brian Dawkins hasn’t waned, it’s just been surpassed. Brian Dawkins lit up this city every time he took the field. The man gave everything he had for the Eagles franchise and that will never be forgotten. Now that I think about it, Jalen Hurts is a near perfect fit for this city too. We’ll see if he is able to climb above Dawkins as his career continues in the city. But this is about the player and city that were made for each other.
Philadelphia asks for a couple things from it’s athletes. Work your butt off and understand that the fans are 100% invested, and spend their money to watch you win. Boos will come and go because that’s our way of showing frustration. We’ll always have your back if you check off the couple boxes we ask for. When it comes time to pick you up, the city will be there for you, just ask Trea Turner.
Now that we’ve laid out what the fans are looking for, lets talk about the player who is all of us, Bryce Harper. Not only does Bryce understand everything about this fan base, but he embodies it. His entire attitude towards the game is as if they went out and plucked a diehard Philly sports fan out of the stands. Except Bryce is an amazing baseball player, Tony Bologna from section 207, just works his butt off and wants to win.
Even before Harper came to Philadelphia, he was playing the game in Washington the way we’ve always wanted out guys to do it here. You hear people talking about red light players, players who show up when the moment is the brightest. Never before has Philadelphia had a red light player like Bryce Harper. Just look at what he did last year in the playoffs, and what his is currently doing in these playoffs. You need someone in a big spot, you best hope it’s Bryce Harper.
Have yourself a seat and watch Harper’s post-game presser from NLDS game 3. You will quickly understand that the city of Philadelphia and Bryce Harper are perfect together.
