Howie Roseman And Nick Sirianni Both Deserve To Be Fired
-After losing 6 of their last 7 games, including an embarrassing loss tonight to end their season, you likely won’t get much pushback when you say Nick Sirianni needs to go. This is one of the worst ends to a season we have ever seen by the Eagles. At least in the modern era. A quick look at what Eagles fans are saying online will let you know they are ready for a new coaching staff. What may garner some pushback though is the suggestion that Howie Roseman needs to go as well. But make no mistake, he is just as guilty as Nick Sirianni. Perhaps more so.
We saw tonight that the defense Howie Roseman put together has nowhere near enough talent outside of the Defensive Line. There were open WRs all night. The Eagles are just lucky there were several drops that kept this from being a bigger blowout than it was. But if the D-Line didn’t get home, Baker Mayfield was picking them apart. They picked on James Bradberry in particular. That is on Howie. Howie is the one who neglected Safety and Linebacker, and he is the one who brought back two aging corners. It is also Howie who neglected to draft any good young corners the last several seasons.
There is a lot of anger directed right at the coaching staff. But who put the coaching staff together? We know that Howie meddles in the coaching staff more than most GMs. And while Nick Sirianni took credit for making the switch to Matt Patricia, there are lots of people in the know who think it was actually Howie that pulled that plug.
Nick’s scheme is terrible. But Howie is the man who hired him. He is the one who helped hire this entire coaching staff. And with how badly they have failed this season, can you really trust him to hire the next one?
Howie Roseman has done a lot of good in his time here. He got us our first Super Bowl ever. But all things eventually come to an end. We saw Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick get phased out this offseason, and they have had way more success than Howie has. It is rare for GMs to hire 4 different head coaches. So if Nick is going to go, Howie needs to go with him. Most of the Eagles’ issues start with him.
Will they do that? No. Howie has more lives than a cat. He somehow survived the collapse of the Doug Pederson and Carson Wentz era. Lurie will give him another chance like he always does. But all the issues we are seeing now, the leaks to the media, the poor roster management, and the lackluster coaching staff, will continue as long as Howie remains in Philly. The same issues have now followed two coaching staffs. Which tells you it is not just them, it goes all the way up to Howie Roseman.
