New Jersey: Best Beaches To Visit In The State
Spring is here, and summer’s beach weather is just a few months away. US News and Travel had a list of the top beaches in New Jersey, and a 6 of them (including the top 2 beaches) are places that many of us from the Philadelphia/South Jersey area frequent in the summer months.
Coming in as the top beach in the state is beautiful Cape May. Cape May as a beach town seems to be different from the rest of the South Jersey beach towns. It seems to give off a quieter feel, but at the same time is it really that quiet when you have beach goers from the other beach towns coming by to shop, check out the cool Victorian look of some of those homes and beach front hotels, etc. There is still something super nice and special about Cape May.
Also making the list at #2 was Avalon. Another beautiful beach town in South Jersey. I like the drive through Avalon to see some of the massive houses on the bay side of town. Some of them don’t actually qualify as houses, more like compounds.
Also on the list are Ocean City at #4, Wildwood #6, Brigantine #8 and my favorite Jersey Shore point, Sea Isle City rounding out the list at #15. You really can’t go wrong when choosing a beach town in South Jersey. It all comes down to what is the 1 thing you looking for that might differ from the other shore points. Some people want to be close to the rides on the boardwalk so Ocean City and Wildwood might be for them. For me I like the idea of very few to no major companies in Sea Isle. No Dunkin’ or McDonald’s. Closest they come is a tiny old school Wawa with a terrible parking lot.
