Woman With One Eye Creates Community On Facebook
Rachel Mayta is a woman with one eye, but that hasn’t stopped her from finding like-eyed people via social media to connect with and share similar experiences.
The story was originally reported by GoodNewsNetwork. We had to talk about it during our Cup o’ Joy story.
The Woman With One Eye Making A Difference
Rachel was only 18 months old when doctors discovered something very scary, cancer. She was diagnosed with retinoblastoma diagnosis, also known as cancer of the eye. They removed the eye so she could lead a happy and healthy life moving forward.
One-Eyed Community Members
Fast forward to today, she is now connecting with people around the world that all, like her, only have one eye. She told GoodNewsNetwork about how this group helps get prosthetic eyes for those who maybe can’t afford them on their own.
“For every $500 raised we get one prosthetic made,” she says. “I want others to see they are not alone, and it is something to be proud of. Own the fact you are different.”
You can see that Facebook page here. It’s so beautifully called “One Eyed and Wonderful.” It currently has (story written in July 2023) 539 likes and 564 followers.
Cool Looking Eye Prosthetics
In addition to helping people with realistic prosthesis, she is also (my opinion) the queen of very unique, vibrant and beautiful eyes. She is known for wearing an all-glitter eye, sometimes a Disney-themed eye, other times she just keeps it simple.
In fact, in the video below, she shows off a couple of her favorites.
She’s an inspiration to so many people however, sometimes there are haters out there. That happens! Many people her happen to see her videos claim that it must a filter and all of this must not be true. She addresses those rumors in the video below.
Here’s more from Rachel, the women with one eye.
