South Philly Neighbor's Act of Kindness After Package Theft
This is a story about an incredibly kind neighbor of mine, right in South Philly.
I ordered a lot from Amazon before Christmas Day. Once I was done collecting presents for my family I decided to treat myself to a few nice things for myself after the holiday. I ordered a pack of scrunchies and a book from Amazon. They would be delivered after the Dec. 27th. Perfect. I would be home by them to receive them.

That was not the case. They were delivered on Christmas Eve when I was with my family in Northeast Philly. When I came home to my apartment Christmas night, two package bags were stuffed in my mailbox opened & empty. Before you enter my apartment building, there is a small vestibule, unlocked for delivery drivers and mailmen to deliver packages inside of the building and safe from porch pirates. I've never had a package stolen, until now.

How weird for the porch pirate to open the package bags, take whatever is inside of them, and then place the empty bags back into my mailbox? I called Amazon and got my refund, after that, I didn’t think much of it.

This past Friday, I received a handwritten note in my mailbox written on loose-leaf paper.South Philly Neighbor

The note reads:

Dear Neighbor,

A few weeks ago I found opened packages addressed to you. Some porch pirate apparently stolen several packages in the "nabe." They opened them near my home on xxxx Street. I found the pile of packaging and was able to notify most victims of what happened. I forgot to come back and leave you a note explaining the packaging stuffed in your mailbox. Sorry.

Stay Vigilant and Happy New Year!

- Your Neighbor

This letter pulled at my heartstrings. Were they able to return the items I ordered? No. Who cares. Those items are and will always be replaceable. This feeling of safety I gained and the protection I felt just from this note is priceless. The "neighbor" remained anonymous, but I thank them very much for looking out for me.

Dog Saves Philadelphia Neighborhood

Let me tell you about the goodest boy in the whole wide world. Kobe is a four-year-old husky owned by Chanell Bell right here in Philadelphia. This dog is a hero because he alerted his owner to a very dangerous gas leak in the neighborhood. Kobe was digging and digging and digging the same exact spot, which is a little rare. Bell decided to investigate and thank goodness. She had her own gas detection device that discovered a significant gas leak. The discovery was huge because the authorities later informed that the leak could have caused severe health issues, brain damage or, at the worst, a very deadly explosion.

Right when she found out about the leak, she called the authorities, which was the right thing to do without a doubt. A gas crew was able to confirm the leak, shut off the gas and repair it. The problem? It was an aging pipe that was leaking in three different places. Bell was told that something as simple as turning on a light could have caused a massive explosion putting the whole neighborhood.

The foreman and the crew were honored to meet the hero, Kobe, who detected the leak potentially saving many lives. Bell said that her pups senses have always been keen and that she's proud of the pup. It is so important to watch your animals closely because they have a sense that us humans do not have. This all went down here in Philadelphia and luckily, nobody was hurt from the dangerous leak. It's important to remember, LISTEN to those pets of yours because their instincts are insane.

Let's watch this video to meet Kobe!
