How Rude! That’s Philadelphia
Philadelphia is the City of Brotherly Love. We have a certain reputation to uphold. We get it, we’re not for everyone. But rude?! Well, I never. The folks at Preply surveyed over 1,500 residents of the 30 largest metropolitan areas in the U.S. and asked them about the rudeness level of their city, including the prominence of certain typically rude behaviors, to help travelers determine what to expect when visiting.
We did it to ourselves. According to residents, the three rudest U.S. cities are Philadelphia, Memphis, and New York City. According to the survey, Philadelphia has an average rudeness score of 6.43 on a scale of 1-10. Philadelphia also ranked first for residents most likely to talk on their speakerphone in a shared space. Philadelphians were also asked to rank who is ruder in their experience, natives or transplants. By a wide-margin, Philadelphia residents said natives were ruder than transplants, 78 percent versus 22 percent.
