There Could Be A Christmas Tree Shortage This Year
We all know it’s been a light summer for rain, especially in New Jersey and that could effect Christmas!
As a result of the summer drought New Jersey farmers say Christmas trees are likely to be in limited supply and that will make them more expensive this winter. It’s not just new saplings that are effected, even older trees are suffering according to a report from the AP. It’s not unusual to have a summer drought, in fact, nine of New Jersey’s 10 hottest summers on record have all been recorded since 2005.
Of the 94 million American households that displayed a Christmas tree in 2021, about 16%, or 15 million, used a farm-grown tree. according to the American Christmas Tree Association. Even though I am a fan of fake trees, this news was unsettling. Christmas trees are such a big part of the pomp and circumstance of the holidays – low supply or expensive trees could take a lot of family traditions off the table this year.
